We are starting to include an amount of text insets for FM files. In this starting period there are changings that happen. If the name or the path of a text insets change, you have to repeat theimport procedure for every single text inset. For changes of referenced graphics (path or name) FM has a fine working procedure:When loading a FM file a message comes up with the uncorrect graphic file. You haveto change the reference and the correction is done.If you changed the name of the graphic directory you have to change the new name for thefirst graphic file and all references will change afterwards automatically. Both procedures does not work for text insets. My questions:I'm working with FM 10: Does anybody knows if there is a work-around for me?Does anybody knows if there are features for processing text insets in FM 12?Thanks in advance
In existing Table:How can I make first two rows as a Heading Rows, so it can be repeated on every page???Could not find this option on Table Designer or Paragraph Designer.Thanks.
QuestionIs it possible to have icons (i.e. inline anchored frames) automatically appear in the TOC?(We translate into 15+ languages, so adding the graphics manually to the TOC after it's generated isn't really a viable option.)ScenarioIn our manuals, we include a troubleshooting section explaining what different warning symbol icons mean. (Kind of like the various check engine lights you see in cars.) It'd be nice to show the actual icons in the TOC, to hopefully make that info a little easier to find.We do include the icons in the actual headings in the book using shrink-wrapped anchored frames, but each anchored frame gets replaced with a space in the auto-generated TOC. (Which is what we would want in most cases, just not this particular instance.)SpecsWe're working in unstructured FM 11.Thanks in advance,Jason Nichols
Hello,I try to parse xrefs in a doc (and update them), but I have trouble getting the reference to fist xref. var comp = doc.FirstXRefInDoc;returns undefined, although there are xrefs in a file. I work in FM 10.also global update doc.UpdateXRefs does not seem to have any effect. When I do manualy Edit - Update references, xrefs in document get updated. Are these properties and methods tied to FM11, in that case, what options I have in FM10?
Hello, moments before a critical deadline, 140+ manuals have been requested in a different size. They are currently all 7.5" x 9.0".The requested new size is 5.5" x 8.5"I cannot find a good way to accomplish this. Do anyone know any tips? Thanks much.
Hi All,I have a Book name X which has X_Cover, X_TOC, X_Chapter 1 and X_IX.From this book, instead of Exclude (file), I used Delete (file) for X_TOC and X_IX. I still have those files in my hard drive. Now I want to add those files (X_TOC and X_IX) back into the book as Table-of-Content and as an Index. How should I go about it?Because when I add those files in the Book and click on Book Update , it does not show the TOC and IX file in the Generate section of the dialog box.Thank you.
Hello everybody, I can not open a FM12 file, the internal error code 12024, 18652356, 18692061 and 18514761 tells me nothing and I unless searching for a plain text translation for the error codes! This kind of trouble occures from time to time but now, first time on FM12. Therefore I try to check if my EDD rules producing this mistake, error or other undefined loop. I like to fix this error but I need to know where is the mistake, one week of work are be in danger in this case... !!!Anybody a idea to fix this issue? (no *.Backup / *.Recovery file existing)Any possibilities for "OPEN IN SAVE MODE"Any possibilities for "CHECK FILE BEFORE TRY TO OPEN"I can not believe that Adobe is unable to define plain text error codes, the technical support in unreachable! Thanks for help,
Hello, I'm running FrameMaker 12 on Windows 7. When I startup the program, I must select one of the follow three.(in 'Choose Interface' window.)- FrameMaker- Structured FrameMaker - FrameMaker XML AuthorUnfortunately, after clicking 'Structured FrameMaker' or 'FrameMaker XML Author', error is occurred.Error message is follows.- Internal Error 12004, 23459156, 23459450, 26389685. FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit. Please, I hope that I receive a good solution. Best Regard.
Hi -I just got asked this and have no clue how to help. Anyone know what this is?Every now and then, my Frame file will –apparently on its own – reset most of its text frames into having room for side heads. Makes for lots of bad labels on graphics – everything’s suddenly offset and scrolling off the bottom. This will happen suddenly. It will usually be only one or two chapters in a book, but if I ignore it has been known spread like the black death throughout the book. The only solution I’ve found so far has been to revert to a backup or touch each text frame individually. Setting properties for two at a time messes up location on the page.
When I highlight a user variable (accessed from the Special > Variable menu) in the variable window in Frame 11 and select edit I get a blank variable and can not edit my user variable. I have to open a master page and double-click the variable in the header to open the variable window, selecting the user variable there opens the defined variable that I can edit.
Hi,I want to know if this is possible to manipulate fm objects to add existing elements (instanciated objects) to a document.I saw multiple ways to create doc objects but I can't found any way to add it anything but text.I saw in the api some functions to create new elements, F_ApiNewGraphicObject(), F_ApiNewAnchoredObject(), F_ApiNewElement()... but none to add an existing element...Is there a way to do that ? If not is it possible to clone an object ?
Here is where my problem occurs: (FM Structured open) File menu > Print Book > PDF setup > Bookmark > Include Elements. Here inside the Include Elements column, how can I move all the element to Don't Include area? Now I can only move one by one but there are hundreds of elements. However I didn't find a Move All button. It's so strange. Can anyone help?
Please Help! FrameMaker 11 keeps crashing when we update and save the book. It is only happening in a few documents, all other documents are working fine. Attached is the error message we get. Any help would be great, thanks!
FM 9 stellt Ligaturn der Schrift "Leipzig Fraktur" nicht dar. Wie kann man z.B. das lange "s" einstellen?
Hmmm, one of Frame's more useful features in recent years (for assisting with document reviews) was the ability to automatically add change bars in the margin. However, these do not seem to make it through to CHM files if I use Frame 12's "Publish" command to generate HTML Help.Is this another one of those little "integration niggles" that Adobe haven't quite managed to solve yet?
I have a TCS5 subscription which includes Captivate 7 - I would like to upgrade to Captivate 8. After advice from Adobe help team, I have uninstalled existing version of TCS and downloaded trial of current version which contains Captivate 8. All programs install correctly but Captivate will only run as trial - even after signing in with my Adobe ID. When installing there was a symbol next to Captivate 32 and 64 bit which says it will only install as a trial. Is this available for existing subscription users yet? If not - when will it be available? I was led to believe at the time I got the subscription that I would have access to the latest software when it comes out. Is this not the case?
When creating a TOC, both the text and the page number link to the paragraph in the body of the document. What I need to do is change the color of only the page number in the TOC. When I create a Character format and apply it to the page number, then the hyperlink goes away for the page number (but is still active for the TOC text). How do I change only the color of the TOC page number and retain the hyperlink? For example:TOC Text .....................PageNumberWhere I want the PageNumber to be red in color but the TOC Text, the dot leader and the PageNumber all hyperlink to the paragraph in the body text. I have tried in both Framemaker V9 and V12.Thanks,Bill
I have a document which is just two sides of A3 with a bunch of custom text frames all over them (the sort of thing that is probably easier to do in InDesign, to be honest, but...)I've realised that I'd prefer "page 2" to be "page 1" (i.e swap the order they appear in) - is there a way to do this in Frame? (other than by manually adding a page 3, copying and pasting everything off page 1 onto it, then deleting page 1)
HiIs there a way to hide specific XML elements (really the elements and not the attributes) in the structure view?I am asking this question to know if it is possible to influence the structure view by scripting. Many elements are indeed used as a kind of help for constructions which have nothing to do with the actual contents especially in the case of tables. You inflate the the structure view unnecessarily and the author will lose track of the real contents. It would be nice if there was a possibility to hide those help construction elements.Thank you for any hints.RegardsApollo102
I have a document containing structured table elements. The tables contain user string information [used by the FDK for tracking purposes], but when I apply a simple script to modify the table shading, I then find the UserString no longer exists on the table. [I checked this by comparing the MIF statements]. My outline script is: doc = app.ActiveDoctbl = doc.FirstTblInDoctblfmt = doc.GetNamedTblFmt ("RouteTable")prop = tblfmt.GetProps() tbl.FirstRowInTbl ; cell = row1.FirstCellInRow ; cell.CellUseOverrideShading = true ; cell.CellOverrideShading = null ; cell.CellUseOverrideFill = true ; cell.CellOverrideFill = 3 ; // change the tabletbl.SetProps (prop) // apply the changesAccording to the FrameMaker scripting guide, only Element and CombinedFontDefn objects can hold user strings. How can I modify the table [with table tag "RouteTable"] while retaining the Table's UserString?
Is there a way in the Autonumber Format to add a return to create a blank line between items in a list? Right now, I can only do it by removing the Autonumber format for the new paragraph and then add it back in for the next line. Seems like there would be a way to add a building block for this.
I have hundreds of files in which some, but not all, of the reference pages are not being used. I don't want to open each file and manually click each page and then delete the pages one by one... what can I do to fix this? I think the files were all created with the same template but ironically the author imported graphics (by reference) onto the reference pages. The path to the referenced graphics (which are located on the reference pages) is invalid, and now all the FM files have errors. I am not a framemaker master, so this may be a simple fix, but I can't figure it out. I tried opening a file (file A) and deleting the unused reference pages. Then I saved it as a new file name (file B) and tried to import the reference pages of "file B" into "file A". This did not work. It just added additional reference pages to file A. I just want to be able to generate a list of reference pages for the files and then only delete the ones that I don't need. Please help. Any suggestions???
I have FM12 and cannot create a list of imported graphics (either by Add > Index of > References - Imported graphics --- or by Add > List of > References - Imported graphics), as I had been able to do in the past. Was this changed in FM12 & if so, why? I saw a few postings on ‘Extendscript of the week’ instructing on adding certain scripts to the FM program folder, but this did not work either. Can someone help me with this? If you've used the scripts I'm referring to, and got them to actually work, could you provide detailed instructions? The ones provided are certainly lacking.
We want to add a check box before every instruction in our Installation Manual in the Frame file. The user should be able to click and check the box in the PDF file.
I have directory A with BookA.book and 25 .fm files in the book.I have directory B with BookB.book and 25 .fm files in the book. The weird thing is that BookA.book points to a few files in directory B, and BookB.book points to a few files in directory A.The two books are related, and possibly/probably should reside in one folder with BookA.book and BookB.book in the one folder.Rather than using Windows to move the files from directory B to A, which would kill the bookfiles and the Xrefs, etc., I understand that I can go the BookA.book and rename/move certain files from directory B into Directory A. But I afraid that would destroy BookB.book and it's cross references -- BookB.book would find that some of its .fm files are missing and will throw up on me before I ever get a chance to open BookB.book and rename/move the files. How can I get these two books into one folder?I'm new at this, .... is it as bad as I think?
