Hi guys , new to the forum and to live streaming i have some questions i need someone to answer and the guys who i have building my site are stuck when it comes to live streaming , as for me i know nothing at all about it, so hear goes. Justin tv in the USA are broadcasting 40+ Live streaming webcams 24/7 using flash , they are getting about 3000-5000 hits at one time yet seem to have no backing or sponsership, am i right in thinking the amount of bandwidth this site is using would look something like 10TB a month? This would cost ££££££££ a month to run the site? Obviously they are not paying this , so could somebody enlighten me towards how they are doing it on such a budget.. I want to build a site with 5 live streaming cameras and (more to come) a bit like Justin Tv i want to be able to broadcast around the clock 7 days a week as and when i please (but not 24/7).. when the site is launched i expect to get between 1000 and 5000 hits per day and the users will be watching for n
I just installed the latest FSM2 on Fedora 5. Everything went perfectly, I didn't even have to add any libraries. I fired up fms2_console.htm on my windows client and logged in to my remote server. In the "Manage servers" pane I can see my server and I can ping it so I'm sure I'm connected properly. When I go back to the "View applications" pane there is nothing in the list. When I click on "New Instance..." nothing happens. I have restarted the server from the console and I've restarted the console but nothing helps. Does anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong? P.S. Why does the button use the word "instance" instead of "application"? Am I supposed to create some kind ofapplication "class" first?
Folks I have swf files generated from Captivate - I want to stream these to prevent browser caching and conceal original file location Can anyone point me to sample files or notes on how to do this using Flash media server? I have managed to glean that it might be posible - swf file on web site connects to asc file on Flash media server which then gets the actual swf from location on web server and serves it via Flash media server to the client - but I need to see an example Looking for either free or fee source Regards Steven
I have installed Flash Media Server 2.0.4 on RedHat Enterprise Linux 4. In process of the installation I have entered user "fms" and group "fms". But after application starting and connect to SharedObject system throws an error: Error: Error #2139: SharedObject could not connect. at Error$/throwError() at flash.net::SharedObject/connect() The same application correctly works on the same type of server. Could this be because of the Linux Setup or because of the flash media setup? This really sucks! Please HELP, all help is appreciated.
My company is evaluating FMS. We currently use LimeLight for streaming video but are looking into setting up our own streaming server for many FLVs. So, I have set up FMS 2 on one of our Linux dev servers (running CentOS) - well, actually one of our Systems guys set it up. There were a few snafus installing it (extra packages that needed installation), but it seems to work fine now. I'm looking for a little configuration help, because I'm running into a problem... shorter FLVs stream fine using the Flash 8 main.asc example files to create a simple video stream. However, we need to be able to serve very large, long duration videos (one hour and sometimes longer). These have played fine from LimeLight, so I'm guessing it's a configuration setting. I also installed FMS on a Windows machine and had the same exact results with multiple players - both the player I've created and the default FLVPlayback player. Longer videos play for 4 seconds consistantly and then end as if it had reache
Is Flash Media Server 2 an actual server that you buy and install on your computer to host your flash files? I'm really confused in that the server comes packed as a piece of software~ My understanding was that servers are bought over some vender that provides internet space through their hosting machines.... Please help me understand how Flash Media Server 2 is used, not it's features, but the way to deploy it. Thanks.
hi, (thanks for reading this) I would like to know if FMS is needed to create a video sharing site like YouTube, Google Video, Putfile. Is FMS for your own videos or is it for my example aswell. Please reply
Hi all i want to publish microphone audio to the server but failed. stream always show "live" on fms2_console, and no flv is published on server. this is my client-script: Code: import flash.net.*; import flash.events.*; stop(); NetConnection.defaultObjectEncoding = ObjectEncoding.AMF0; var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); var ns:NetStream; function ncHandler(eve:NetStatusEvent):void { trace(eve.info.code); if(eve.info.code == "NetConnection.Connect.Success") { ns = new NetStream(nc); ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, nsHandler); ns.attachAudio(Microphone.getMicrophone()); ns.publish("blackcamera", "record"); } } function nsHandler(eve:NetStatusEvent):void { trace(eve.info.code) } nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, ncHandler); nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/myApplication"); then, i create a folder called "myApplication" on server root but not create main.asc(i don't think it's necessary). i run the client and trace "NetConnection.Connect.S
On Machine A: I have Apache and Flash Media Server 2 Developer Ed. When I test my app ( called testApp1 ) everything works fine. But, when I test it on Machine B over the LAN, it hangs for a long time, I get, NetConnection.Connect.Failed and then the browser crashes. Very annoying. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I can post my code if you need to see it as well. Thanks in advance for any help!
Hi, Is there a way to install FMS2 on a Red Hat Enterprise 5 ? Thanks
I have FMS installed on a machine with two IP addresses on the same network card. I've configured the adaptor.xml file to bind to a particular IP which worked fine for a while. It then suddenly decided to bind to the other IP address and I cannot get to bind to the first IP address. Has anyone ever seen this behavior or have an idea how I can fix this? I can even see it binding to the proper IP in the logs but the code has to point to the wrong IP for any Flash to work.
I want to look at some shared objects in the Media Server administration page, but when I click on them I get the error "Failed to make a debug connection." Does the main.asc have to be running in the development environment in order to view the contents of the shared objects?
I have some code I've been using to connect to a streaming server. This version is compiled for ActionScript 2.0: ---- netConnection = new NetConnection(); netConnection.onStatus = function(info) { trace("status: " + info.code); }; netConnection.connect("rtmp://server.net/blah/blah/"); ---- When I run that, I get "status: NetConnection.Connect.Success" and everything works like it should. Now, I run what seems to me to be pretty much identical code, compiled for ActionScript 3.0: ---- var netConnection:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); netConnection.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler); netConnection.connect("rtmp://server.net/blah/blah/"); function netStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void { trace("status: " + event.info.code); } ---- When I run that, though, I get: status: NetConnection.Connect.Rejected status: NetConnection.Connect.Closed I've tried using port 1935 as suggested here, and that didn't help. I also tried uploading this to my server t
Some of my users complains that while viewing the live streaming of my application, the audio quality deteroriates over time. The audio tends to sounds jerky for a while and then the audio is completely lost. This happens when the video quality remains constantly acceptable, hence I don't think its a internet connection issue. I am encoding my audio at 11025Hz and 20kbps. I wonder if anyone has encountered a similar problem or has a solution to this. Thanks!
Hey guys, I noticed whenever my FME's connection to the FMS get laggy, the FME seems to buffer the stream. The streaming service hence becomes 'not live' as the users watch events that happened minutes ago. Is there any settings that I can apply to either the FMS or FME to prevent this? Currently, the only solution I could use is to stop the FME streaming and restart it, flushing out the buffered data.
I have FMS uploaded on a host, and i log in but i dont know how to add an application.. Could SOmeone Help?

Hello, I have two questions: Is FMS Unicast or Multicast? What are the pros/cons with FMS vs WMS? The reason for my questions is that my company has a Flash Streaming Server and a Windows Media server and we would like streaming video of conferences displayed on our Intranet. I have setup the streaming service and am using flash media encoder. However, we also stream other content to a windows media player and the benefits of that is the ability to Multicast. I would like to use FMS because I can customize the experience but I know I will have to justify against a multicasting system Thank you for your time
Hi all- I seem to be having an issue that has been posted a few times but with no solution. I thought I would give it another go-around: I just installed FMS 2 on a hosted server running Red Hat Enterprise 4. I'm able to connect successfully using the admin console. I put my video chat application in the "applications" directory. In the FMS console, when I go to "View Applications" then click on "New Instance" I see my chat app. When I select it, it asks for an instance name; I give it a name (tried default and unique name). After that, I see the application details view that shows buttons for the "Live Log", "Shared Objects", "Streams", and "Performance". After about 3 seconds everything disappears. It seems that FMS is unable to load the application successfully. I tried the application on a Windows server and everything loading successfully without a problem. Has anybody had the same problem or can somebody shed light on this? Thanks!
Hi. I have found the same results on both my home and work PC. I cannot get the sample_guestbook to work properly. When the app starts, it connects. However, I fill in a guestbook entry and press SUBMIT. Nothing happens. (I checked the application folder and it puts an FLV, but still, the app is not functioning correctly) I found one other person on the forum had the same problem, but there is no posted solution. Please, any help. Thanks, Sean
Simple question really, since the fms_console.swf page is not the most effective way to manage multiple FMS servers. Is there a MIB or other way to monitor FMS2 via SNMP, or does it have any remote monitoring facilities other than the SWF?
Hi all i am happened a question that i use FMS to record a rapper audio follow music, then complete i listen the flv audio files it seem a little faster then music, in 1 minute's it will faster about 0.1 seconds in 3 minute's it will faster about 0.3 seconds because of the song is rapper so it's faster appearence. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Thanks.
its asking for this info on installation... somebody should be able to answer this - you've all had to enter a valid user group for your FMS service user upon install
when I begin the install on my linux server... I get past the point where I enter the admin name and password.. then it ask me to give an alternate user ID (default is nobody) ... after doing so - the install script ask me for a valid user group for the user.. I've tried everything, and cant figure out what a valid user group is!!! and there is no documentation in the install guide that even refers to this question ever being asked... if someone could help me out with this - it would be appreciated - because the installation wont go any further until I answer this question
Howdy folks My company developed a flash video chat (adult related) application. We have intensively tested the application without problems on the developer edition of FMS and afterwards we decided to buy a license. We have configured the license on the 1000/40/unlimited and fired the site up. But here's the problem. After a certain number of connections (we counted at about 40 simultaneous streaming sessions plus let's say an average of 2 guests per each stream) the core goes off and dies, therefore not loading the video anymore. Each time this happends we need to restart the FMS and it's working fine for another period of time. The system FMS2 is running on is a Dual Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz with 4 GB of RAM. The processors are running at about 30 - 40% of their capacity right before the core goes down. Anyone else had any similar experience and if yes what was the solution? Any help is greatly apreciated. Looking forward to hear from the community. Warm Regards Andy
