Hi, I am gotta buy Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (64-bit) for my deployment of FMS 2. As I read FMS 2 system requirement, it only support Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (not mention 32 / 64-bit). Does anyone got idea on this issue? Thx a lot! Alan

Hi does anyone know of a good way to synchronize separate (video/audio) recorded streams during playback? For example takea video conferencing app; I can can record each stream separately but during playback is there anything i can do force them to be synchronized? From reading around, it seems like the answer is "No".. Any thoughts?
Hi there. Pulling out my hair...and i'm bald enough already! I built a FLA that streams live from the FME - works great. Cannot for the life of me figure out how to use the FLVPlayback (or anything for that matter) to stream a regular FLV. Any help would be SO helpful!! My fms and flv set up - ... applications/playapp/play.flv (also put in streams folder and _definst_ folder with play.flv in there just in case) in the source, I have tried all variations - but is currently: rtmp://edge2.xxx.net/playapp/instance1 It demands an instance name, even though I don't know how that works (i know i put the source in FME with that, but this is an already made FLV). Sincere thanks - adam
If I want users to connect and either stream or progressively download a video, can I turn on a limit for the bandwidth? Say I want people to download a video encoded at 200kbps. I dont want their networked hit too hard, which would happen if they simply started to progressively download this with no limits. Their flash player would simply try to download the entire file as fast as possible. Instead, I want to throttle their download bandwidth to 210kbps, so that the download happens more slowly, but still fast enough for the video to play the downloaded segment without interruptions. There IS a way to throttle upload bandwidth on video cameras and microphones - I saw this in the tech descriptions, but cant think of the method offhand. But its for when users are tossing live video from their web-cam to their server - the server limits the bandwidth. Is there something like this for downloading/stream with FMS?
I am trying to implement a very simple class that will create an instance of the NetConnection object and connect to the FMS server. However, the client will connect then immediately disconnect when the swf is published. My code is as follows... FLA Code: import _includes.*; var obj_conn:Conn = new Conn(); obj_conn.connect(); Conn.as Code: class _includes.Conn { public function Conn() { } public function connect() { var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection(); nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/classtest"); } } Please note that the connection works fine if I just create a NetConnection variable on the FLA itself in the timeline. Any suggestions/help would be appriciated!
After 4 days, I'm still stuck with what should be a simple learning exercise. I'm not a newbie developer by any means so this shouldn't be beyond me. After a couple weeks of reading, I'm now trying to do some bite size exercises to ramp up on Communication Server (using Flex as the back end ). I'm missing something in my understanding and could use a good quick swift kick in the pants to get me going. All I want to do is created a server side remote object, then when a client connects, send and add a simple string to the remote object. Then have the client receive the update and display the information in a text box. Below is the code I'm trying to use, cleaned up a bit (so their might be a typo or two). It captures the idea of what I'm trying to do. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The idea is to send a test string to the server on connect, and have the server add it to the server side shared object. In theory, I think, this will fire the client's onsync event to send the change
I do not have a Flash Media Server. But I may get one depending on the answer to this question. Real Player 11 Beta released this week and one feature it to "grab" videos off websites in order to save them to your personal computer harddrive and burn them to CD/DVD. That is fine for content that is for public consumption, but what about content that is behind subscriptions or copyrighted? I Downloaded Real Player 11 yesterday to test if it worked with my site which has .flvs which progressively download on it. Unfortunatley, it worked like a charm. Easy to download and the video looks good. Real said if you have Microsoft DRM then it won't let the video download. Great, except what about Mac users where microsoft DRM doesn't mean anything? So, question is, does Flash media server provide security against Real Player 11's grab the video feature? Dan
Is there a way to save additional information in the FMS access logs when a stream is started? I was hoping to save a "user id" in the log, so I can record which users are streaming which content. If so, would this be done at the object embed html level?
Hi everyone, I just tried to put my webcam live. I installed FMS 2, Flash Media Encoder and a webserver on same machine. Is it for that, i can stream live my webcam only with rtmp localhost...when i try to put rtmp://mydomain.ca/myliveApp/instance1 in flash media encoder path i received a error: error to connect to primary server. I have firewall but i opened port 1935, 80...Someone can help me? Thanks...
I am currently using the new FME to encode live to a FMS. Both applicatioins are running on the same machine. Is there a way to embed live cue and metadata into the live stream? Once embedded we want to record the stream AND send it on to viewers. Is there a way to process this on the server. The live cue and metadata is coming in the serial port.
Hi, I'm streaming a flv from a media server (i think, theplatform.com) using netStream and netConnection. How can I detect when it's done and make play again? Regards, Jakob
Is this are right questions ? 1. Can we store our swf in FMS appfolder and call them in our web page securely ? 2. Can we use "rtmp//********/sample.swf" uri in the embed code in html page reside in another webserver ? (means we are storing swf in FMS only not in webserver app folder) 3.If not possible the above steps, how to get a simple flv file get streamed in html page ? (I got one flv inside FMS app folder, but when I call it on html page using client side AS it not showing anything in the browser. But in FMS console it shows one client is connected and in stream section it showing the flv file get stored) what I only wanted is my flash files should not get stored in client machine or he/she could not be able to download the file code to call flv from FMS, this was taken from this forum itself to testing purpose. //create a netConnection object var nc = new NetConnection(); //keep an eye on the status events, we need to know when we have connected up nc.onSt
Hi all, Am developing an "youtube.com" kind of website where we can upload anyformat of files and view it online in a flash player. The functional flow for this is as follows 1. Upload video file 2. FLV Conversion of the same 3. Placing it in my Flash Media Server 4. Streaming video to flash player. For this i have already come up with a prototype for doing this Though am ready to buy Flash Media Server(FMS), I have doubts in the following things 1.Is there any FMS API to do FLV conversion from my webserver to Flash Media Server? that is a upload component which converts and stores an FLV file in the FMS during upload? The documentation is not speaking clear about flv conversion. 2. Server streams folder holds all the instance folders where we store our FLV files. for example if am creating a instance folder for each and every users. How much folder instances can be created as a whole for the same application? Sure it will be dependent on the File System right? ( million folder
Hi, We're running the older Flash Communication Sever, and we're trying to figure out how to keep it from Unloading application instance when noone is using that application. It's a chat app, and when noone is using it, the server shuts the app down, which wipes out the existing chat history for any new user that comes in, so the new user thinks the chat isn't being used. Thank you.
Hi I'm still feeling my way with media server and need a little help. I'm making a chat app with multiple rooms. I need to have a directory feature which lists all connected users and their current location. As far as I can tell theres two possible ways of achieving this: Senario 1: design one fms room app which maintains a directory list in a shared object which is accessible by all instances of the room app. This then causes a problem when a user isn't in a room but is logged in (i.e. is accessing navigation pages etc.) as they still need to be listed in the directory. Should they be connected to some 'lobby' instance of the room app to bypass this, even if they can't actually chat/see other users in the lobby? Senario 2: have two apps and two seperate net connection instances, one a room app and one a global comms app which maintains the user directory. If you're not connected to a room you're still connected to the global app so you're still listed in the directory. Senario 2 t
Evening All, I am still fairly new to all this so please excuse me if I have overlooked something very obvious however any assistance would be much appreciated. Scenario is we will be playing a straight forward flash animation throughout an event. I would like to for one part of this event switch to a live camera feed (From within the same event). If I capture this stream live with Flash Media Server, can this stream then easily be played within the Flash file? Ie. Can we develop the flash and configure the stream prior to the event, embed the stream into the required section of the flash presentation and compile the flash file, the video will then be pulled live from the streaming server? Perhaps this is more of a Flash question then a Media Server question? Any help much appreciated :-) Cheers Nick.
how can create private chat using FCHAT control using FMS. i created chat conference or multiple users pls give idea about private chat using FCHAT and FMS thanks saran

Hello, I want to display the number of viewers that are watching a video stream on a website... I am using FMS 2, and this is the actionscript of the flash file: connect_pb.onRelease = function(){ if(this.label == "Start Watching"){ this.label = "Stop Watching"; nc.connect("rtmp:/livecast"); } else { this.label = "Start Watching"; nc.close(); } } nc = new NetConnection(); nc.onStatus = function(info) { createNetStream(this); } createNetStream = function(nc){ ns = new NetStream(nc); myvid.attachVideo(ns); ns.play(stream, -1) } (it displays the video another user is streaming through his webcam). How can I add the number of viewers of this video to the flash? Thanks.
Hi, My company is about to start developing a Flash application for recording to Flash Media Server. The client has said they are concerned that if their server with FMS on it goes down, then the application will be unusable. They've asked if it is possible - and whether it has any affect on development - to have two Flash Media Servers running, so that if one server goes down, the SWF will connect to the other server. Can anybody let me know if this is possible/difficult to do? Also, they had a few other questions for me, which I think I've found the answers to. If anybody could confirm though then I'd feel a lot happier 🙂 They were: Q1) Is there a way of informing users when the number of allowed connections is used up? A1) Yes, you can have a preloader on the SWF connecting to the server which will have some informative text (e.g. "connecting - please wait a few moments. Try again later if it takes longer than...") Q2) Can the application connect via port 80 or port 443
