I've set up a basic chat app. I'm adding a new property for each message to a persistent remote SO called "chat_so". A message consists of a few sub properties(icon, color), as well as the message text. (The project requires each message to have these properties unique.) When a new user logs on, all the messages are successfully fetched by the onSync. However, the order of the properties is not chronological. Its almost like its in chronological chunks, but mixed together randomly. I haven't been able to dertimine any pattern in the chunks that are together(ie if they are all from the same user, etc). In my onSync I'm looping through from the first property to the last property. What is the solution here to ensure that the message history is fetched in chronological order? I could put all the messages in an Array, but then each new message would require the entire message history to be re-downloaded, and I'll get write concurrency problems, as pointed out to me in another thread.
From the product brochure I understand the origin/edge architecture facilitates load balancing and fail over. I don't understand whether is possible - with a reasonable dev effort - to ensure a simple lb and failvoer also with FMS professional installed on two or more servers. Is there any support for this in FMS? I know an FMS can "talk" with another FMS, but is there something more out-of-the-box? Where can I get some addtional info about how LB and Failover is handled in the origin/edge architetcure?
I have been given a research task by my boss. I am NOT (yet) an experienced FMS programmer, and I have been tasked with finding out how to do the following. We need to collect live audio/video and screen capture data from numerous distributed sources all recording at the same time (the same event, actually) and securly collect it at multpiple locations, insuring that each location is fully syncronized with the other(s). The idea was to have complete sets of all the data stored on multiple servers, for a few reasons, including security, backup and load sharing. Now, I gather that the best way to do this is by using one or two origin servers and using edge servers at the remote sites to do the load balancing. But everything that I have been able to find has been geared to the servers satisfying requests for data, not collecting data from the clients. We are already using a FMS to collect data from multiple camera, microphone and screen capture feeds at a single physical location.

Hi Folks, I do short ads on Final cut pro and i need to load them to Flash comm server. I tried all posiblities but i dont get high quality videso like the ones you see on yahoo and the rest. I would appreciate if you can let me know whats the best practice in steps. Many Thanx By the way I have Flash 8 and dreamweaver 8
I'm new to FMS, so hopefully this problem has a simple answer. I'm recording video streams using a simple call to NetStream.publish('path', 'record'). It was working fine a few days ago, but now it's not and I'm not sure why -- it seems that everything is fine on the client, but no FLV files are appearing on the server. Tracing out the status event from NetStream: -- status -- description,Connection succeeded. code,NetConnection.Connect.Success level, status -- status -- clientid,112165952 description, test is now published. code,NetStream.Publish.Start level, status -- status -- clientid,112165952 description,Stopped recording test. code,NetStream.Record.Stop level, status -- status -- clientid,112165952 description, test is now unpublished. code,NetStream.Unpublish.Success level, status The server log just says a connection has taken place. The weird thing is that In the console, under "streams", it lists the stream name but says its type is "live" even though I passed "record" to NetSt
Hello, I have some trouble with the gc of old aplication instances. After the last client's disconnection, the instances keep running. Even in the default server-settings the instances don't get garbage collected. Does anybody know this problem? greetz
Hi All, First time poster. I was wondering if anyone knows why enhanced seek using netstream (ns.play) method doesn't seem to work? For example I want to play a sample clip starting at 15 second mark and for length of only 20 seconds I should be able to use this. ns.play("some_video",15,20); and I find it works perfectly fine on sparc codec (immediate playback) but with VP6 it's just blank for about 15 seconds then it starts to play. It's almost like it actually is playing from the 0s mark but doesn't show anything until 15 seconds have elapsed. So I decided to play around a bit with using ns.seek and ns.play and discovered this. ns.play("some_video",0,35); ns.seek(15); so it seems by doing this it will play from the 15s mark and end at the 35s mark. it works well enough, just wondering if anyone knows why it won't work with the first example? Regards, Adam Walsworth
I am trying to use the EnhancedSeek feature with VP6 FLV files and it seems not to be working. Seeking a VP6 FLV file will jump to key frames regardless if I set the EnhancedSeek tag to true. More, for the begining of the file it will seek only at first frame and then to second 10. Does anyone know more about enhanced seek for VP6? We need to be able to seek the flv files accurate. Thanks
In searching through all of the linux install/update packages for FMS2, I cannot find examples in any of them of an Access module, as outlined in the FMS management manual, pp 216-231. Is the user expected to synthesize the module entirely? If so, does anyone have an example Makefile for linux with all of the necessary library usages?

However, I'm having a surprisingly hard time understanding how a basic flashcom app works. It seems most of the information I've found relies on the use of components, which I want to avoid as much as possible. If someone could point in the right direction, or give me the basic architecture, that would be wonderful. Some slightly more specific questions: - Do remote SharedObject writes get broadcasted to all connections? - What is the role of server-side ActionScript? It seems to me that after accepting/rejecting the connection almost everything could be scripted client-side, with writing/reading to various remote SharedObjects. However it looks like all the components have extensive server-side AS. To give a practical example, how would I construct a very basic chat? I know everything about how t
The age old question has been "how do you use Flash to write to a file", and the answer has and likely will always be "you can't. You have to use a server side script". Well, hello, Server Side ActionScript. Can you use SSAS to write to a text or xml file?
We have recently added Flash streaming to our company. We've streamed in Windows Media for several years. Is it possible to downstream between Windows Media Services and Flash Media Server 2?
Hello all, this forum has been very helpful in answering all my fms questions, I have yet another one. How much is too much with FMS? I would like to broadcast and view users webcam, but I would like to know how many people I could broadcast and view without making to server go extremely slow and also, is there a way arround the server getting too crowded? For example, say I want a max of "x" simultaneous conections broadcasting in a server and when I reach that "x" mark for it to go to broadcast through another server, etc. Is influxis the best hosting arround? Or are there others? Thanks so much in advance, Rgds,
1. FMS is installed on a P4 3 Ghz cpu and 4 Gb memory 2. FMS is running in the 'application-scope' ; each application (main.asc) has it's own core 3. both applications create +/- 30-60 instances (lets name them chat-rooms) and those get abandoned when they are empty (they get removed by the idle or garbage collector after 5 minutes in case no clients are in the instance any more) 4. About 100-250 connections are in use, divided over 2 applications and about 40 active instances 5. We call in every instance for every user every 20 seconds an PHP script using the XML.load method which validates the connected user (obj_xml = new XML() ; obj_xml.load("phpscript.php"); obj_xml.onLoad = checktheaccessetc ; delete obj_xml) However using this setup both applications start with 0 Kb memory usage and have grown to monsters, eating up to 3 Gigabyte of memory each. When the size reaches approx. 3072 Kb of memory the core crashes and it sometimes takes down the FMS master-service too resulting in
would any of the experts be able to tell me in the code below why i am able to make a connection to my application (verified in the FMS admin console) but not play the sample file - AVSEQ14.flv (which is located in ...applications\video\streams\_definst_ here is the actionscript so far inside of my .fla file: //no flv extention needed var thefile = "AVSEQ14"; //name of flv to stream //put the flv in the _definst_ folder though. nc = new NetConnection(); nc.connect("rtmp://66.235.194.204/video/streams/"); //fms server address ns = new NetStream(my_nc); ns.setBufferTime(2); my_video.attachVideo(ns); // my_video is a video object on stage ns.play(thefile); thanks for any suggestions
i have a new windows server dedicated to flash server 2.0 do any of the experts know what the EXACT path that would be placed in the contentpath field to be able to stream a video? so far with a test, i have only been able to view a AVESQ14swf and test.html file ONLY on the server by installing flash 8 on the server and by using the contentpath of: C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash Media Server 2\application\video\streams\_definst_\AVESQ14.flv from a web browser on my local machine the test.html and AVESQ14.swf will not load and I realize this because the contentpath is not correct, and should be something as: rtmp://66.235.194.204/video/streams/_definst_/AVSEQ14.flv the problem is i have tried every possible combination known to man, rtmp:/ with one slash, two slashes, localhost, ip address, path this and path that for three days and can not get the swf or html to load locally on my machine at home. to test, i have uploaded a different .swf file (progressive download config) th
Can I programatically obtain the kind of performance stats you see in the management interface, e.g. get a count of number of connections, number of active streams etc. We use tools like munin and nagios for server tracking, I'd like to integrate FMS into this. Can anyone recommend the best way to go about this?
I'm using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4) on a dedicated server. I have followed installation instructions to the T (tried the PDF documentation way, 2 or 3 different ways from these forums, and on several google sites) and the installation works 100%. The server and admin server are apparantly starting as well, because I can connect and login using the admin interface. However, that's all I can do. None of my applications will connect to the server they all complain about "cannot connect to the server". I thought it could have been my programs, but i tried the official sample programs and they didn't work either. Upon further examination of the logs, I find this: core.00.log: #Version: 1.0 #Start-Date: 2006-11-28 12:28:09 #Software: Macromedia Flash Media Server 2.0.3 r68 #Date: 2006-11-28 #Fields: date time x-pid x-status x-ctx x-comment 2006-11-28 12:28:04 21458 (i)2581246 Core (21458) sending register cmd to edge. - 2006-11-28 12:28:05 21458 (i)2581247 Core (21458) disconnect
Hello, Does anyone know of a way to authenticate users that are accessing streams on the Flash Media Server. I read something about LDAP and database authentication but it looks like I have to fork off extra cash to have this authentication "product" which should have come with my purchased copy of FMS in the first place. Anyway, I would like to have just allowed users being able to watch movies and if anyone can tell me how to do this I'd greatly appreciate it. I run Redhat EL 4. Right now I create a hash symlink on the server that points to the content in some other directory. The hashed symlink is different for every user. When the FMS stop using the symlink a cronjob removes the symlink so nobody else can view the content. However, this is not secure enough. Thanks, Raymond.
I am doing some tests on rejecting connections. I have written the simplest test possible. I have two applications one that always accepts the connection ("acceptApp") and one that always rejects the connection ("rejectApp"). I am running the developer version 2.0.3 r68 so I have a max of 10 connections. If I run 5 clients that try to connect to the "rejectApp" - they all get rejected and the admin tool shows 0 clients connected to that app. Then I run clients that connect to the "acceptApp" - they should all get accepted up to 10 clients. However only 5 will connect. The rest are auto rejected by the server before the code in the main.asc even runs. Is this a bug or is it me? The only thing that works is if I restart the server or if I wait in excess of 30 min - I havent timed it yet. Any suggestions? Thanks!
My company just installed FMS2 on a Windows server solely for the delivery of Flash video into Captivate 2 training modules (it uses the Flash flv play back component). I can assign the content path to the flv as I import it into Captivate. I have been practicing with my local host and the FMS developers edition setting things up as follows: Open FMS directory Open Applications folder inside Applications folder create folder "videoApp" inside"videoApp" folder create folder "streams" inside "videoApp" paste actionscript file from Flash 8 "main.asc" (I am using Flash flv playback component) Inside of "streams" folder create "_definst_" folder upload flv files into "_definst_" folder This works just fine on my local host. My question is, 1. is this an acceptable way to stream the flv files ? 2. Can I put say 100 of my flv files in this one _definst_ folder and efficiently stream to say 100 subscribers? (we have a big pipe) I know FMS is capable of great things (I'm using a th
I have an application for a poker game which works perfectly in Firefox 1.5 and 2.0, however in IE7 (not too sure about IE6 thou) there is a serious problem. I shall explain.. User logs in. Opens a popup of the game which is just a php script which loads in the SWF. SWF successfully connects the the FCS 1.5 and sits around waiting for another player... however at any time if the person closes the window and any other IE7 windows are open the "onDisconnect" rule on the server side does not execute, therefore since this game only allows you to play one game at any one time, if you try to open a window to start a new game it finds an existing instance of the player. Only if *all* IE7 windows are closed does the onDisconnect finally recognise that the person has disconnected. This is only happening in IE, wherehas FIrefox, Safari and Konq. all work as expected. The browser flash plugin is version 9 on all the machines. Anyone had or experience similar problems with the onDisconnect, a
