Media Server (read-only)

I am new to Flash Media Server 2. I have downloaded and installed the free developer edition onto a dedicated Win 2000 server. Is there any simple tutorials on how to get a video stream of a Flash 8 swf up and running on a website using this software from what folders to create and where to place the files. I have searched the net but cant locate anything. Any help or links would be appreciated

Could I create a webpage where there is a record button, that when pressed will record that users webcam, and sound, without the use of the FMS? Is this possible or do you have to have FMS to do this?

I have created a new Directory called "mydir" into the Application Directory Of Flash Media Server. I copied my "mydir.flv" file into ths directory. But : Problem 1 : I can't see this file in the Stream Section of the Administration Console. Problem 2 : I can't access the adress : rtmp://localhot/mydir/mydir.flv Please, help me since I must have forgoten some essential steps in my Server Installation process. Thanks

I have an app which makes a little clip dance when the microphone activity goes high enough. That's easy, just check Microphne.get().activityLevel I also, however, have an incomming netStream which I'd like to do the same thing with, make the little clip dance when the activity on the incomming stream goes above a given level. This isn't so easy, there is no activityLevel properly on a netStream it seems. Anyone have any clue how I might go about finding such a thing? Thanks.

Hi, I was wondering how one goes about converting a .mov or non-.flv file format to .flv automatically without user intervention rather than using Flash video econder to do the job? Are there a set of API's that can be used for this? Is there a way for a web application to take an uploaded video file, call into some API's to convert it to .flv and then store it on the web server for progressive download or streaming? Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hi All, I have a webpage where 4 flvs can be viewed. The problem is that the playback is very stuttery. Now ive experimented with lowering the quality in the flash vid encoder but to no avail. The flv file sizes range from 500k to 2MB but there seems no disernable difference between the lowest and highest quality in terms of playback. Hopfully someone can shed some light on this, Cheers, Dave.

Hi I want to make an application to send instant messages, i.e if i am sending msg to any user , It should popup the message in that user's machine . I want to know how to make application run as soon as the user starts his machine , is it possible to get ip address of the machine using FMS. Please give me some idea how to start my application. hi all I'm using "FlvPlayBack" component that ships with Flash 8 to play a bunch of FLV's from an XML file. According to the documentation (given that my component on the stage is called X), I can do: X.contentPath = "rtmp://server/foo/bar.flv"; and i should be set. The problem is that the above doesn't work now the same program works if i feed it an XML with paths to local FLV files (instead of over RTMP protocol) -- also I can stream the files using Netconnection/Netstream combo it's only when i do X.contentPath = "rtmp://server/foo/bar.flv"; that i get into probelm

I've noticed that I'm not the only one with this problem. Everything works but when getting bytesloaded it returns nothing but 0's. I'd like this question answered if not for me but for others out there. Is this a FMS bug? I'm able to get it working if I'm downloading the flv through HTTP but RTMP just doesn't do it. If I use HTTP tunneling would that work? Some body please HELP!

I'm running FMS on Fedora Core 4 and it's been fine for a while but for some reason, every few weeks, it just crashes and the only evidence I find is in /var/log/messages. This is the error I see... Hi all, I'm trying to create an audio/video streaming application. The thing is i need to capture video streams from my camera and send it across to 100s of students. I may also store this stream for offline viewing. I remember having done it a few years back using JMF and mpg/mpeg2 formats but the performance was really bad and i had to scrap my work. I was wondering if using FLV format could improve the performance. I do understand that using FLV format, i will have to have a flash based client as well. Having said all this, i'm ready to re-write my whole application. Can somebody help please? I'm open to any suggestions/corrections. Thanks in advance. Bonifars

Hi, how can i create RTMP applications with php? I need several applications dynamically, that are created when two users connect to a private chat, that is nothing more than a simple chat. The swf is the same, the applications are many. And when they disconnect the chat, the applications will be deleted automatically.

Hi I made a sample chat application with following components. simpleconnect, chat usercolor. chat component is working, it is sending and receiving messages. but when i change color in the usercolor combobox. the color is not reflected in the chat application. why , whats the problem. I could not understand, since one week i am struggling with it. if i run the sample_videoconference file it is working properly, only when i drag new components and make a new application , my combobox components are not responding, even setbandwidth combobox is also not respond if at runtime i change its selection. i need help very urgently, already i have wasted lot of time. thanks in advance regards avanthika

Hi. We are newbyes to FMS, therefore this question. Is it possible to install trial of FMS2 on Win XP, or just Win2000 Server or Win2003 server is sutable for this purpose? We develope games with Macromedia Director and want convert them to multiuser-Versions. We wanted to try this out with FMS on one XP computer . But we see, documentation sais, we need one of two above mentioned servers for this. Is it right, or can we still try FMS on Win XP?
