Thanks for the input. I have been working in c# application and using COM interface to do certain things in illustrator but I am seeing some performance issue. I found out that there is a method DoJavaScriptFile which is used to call the script. so I am wondering may be there is a way to call the plugin methods.

Hi All, I have a custom C++ plugin that loads in Illustrator CC 2017. I have another application in C# and I am able to call Illustrator methods by including type library (tlb) in my project. This works fine. Now I want to call the methods of custom C++ plugin from C# application. Is there a way to update type library so that it includes methods from my plugin? Or any other way to call custom methods of plugin. Thanks for any help, VG

All I need to get the different styles in a single textframe. No one stop you to apply different styles in a single word, it's just a case (although even I wonder why people need this ).. If you see in Indesign, there is a property "textStyleRanges" which gives the array of different text style ranges, we don't have to iterate through character by character or word by word. So All I am looking for some better script to get the character styles I did try something like this, var textRangeLength = textFrame.textRanges.length; for (var i = 0; i < textRangeLength; i++) { var noOfCharacterStyles = textFrame.textRanges.characterStyles.length; ---------------------------- } By executing above code, what happening is as follows, Suppose we have a textFrame with content "ABCD EFGH CD".. then textRangeLength becomes 12.. and its calculating character attributes applied on each character. And what I am looking for, it should return the characterStyle as, First style object will be "A" Second style object will be "B" then third will be "C" then fourth will be "D EFGH " and then "C" again... I hope it makes sense. Thanks for any help..

Hi All, I am trying to get the multiple character styles applied to the single selected text frame. Let's say, there is a text frame with contents "ABC XYZ", ABC have different character style and XYZ have different. What I am doing here is iterating through each character and getting its character styles. So its taking a lot of time. Is there any other way of getting number of character styles in a text frame? Does it change with font? Yes, difference vary with change in font also. does the bottom of the bounding box move or does the height increase? bottom of the bounding box remains same, only top shifts which leads to increase in height.. I think it used to have values small values that could be the delta from position-value. And this is the statement I am looking for .. Descriptor value gives the exact difference (position-value) from all the sides. Thanks for all your valuable time and inputs.. Thank you all to make me understand things here..

Actually what I done here is that, - Created a paragraph type text - Used Cntrl + T to know the left top coordinates of the bounding box. - Matched these values from the values coming from script. Following are the jpgs, Original bounding box.. Here, x = 60px and y = 100 px , Using textItem.position I am getting exactly these values. No issue.. Bounding box shown in transform control i.e. When I use cntrl+T to the selected text item at x= 60px and y = 100px, the 'x' coordinate remains same but 'y' changes to approx 92 px as you can see in following image. I want to get this 'y' value. Is there any way to get this? And I also observe that the difference varies according to the text font size.

Thanks guys for your responses. What I need here is just the left, top coordinates of bounding box. Please take a look into the following jpg, Here's the left top coordinate is x= 50 px, y = 50 px. Is there any way to get these? I tried to get these values using action manager code which is as follows,

Note that, Left = activeDocument.activeLayer.textItem.position[0]; Top = activeDocument.activeLayer.textItem.position[1]; doesn't give me the left and top coordinates of bounding box.

Hi all, I am trying to get the bounds of bounding box of paragraph text item. I found the following link, the coordinate of a bounding box is the same as the layer's coordinate? But the solution doesn't work for me. It gives me the layer's bound every time i.e. the bounds of actual text. Can someone have any idea how to accomplish this? Thanks.

It will work when we terminate the line with Enter key. It isn't working in the following case, - Create a point type text item on the photoshop document. - Write the line like "This is a" . Now press Shift+Enter key (Cursor will move to the next line). - Write anything like "sample.". - Now execute the script on this text item. It will return 1.

but this works only when there is only an Enter after end of lines or you can say when the line terminates with Enter key only. This case fails when the line terminates with Shift+Enter key.

As far as I can tell Photoshop Documents don’t have Swatches, the Application does.
Sorry for my ignorance.. I had looked into it but I didn't find anything useful in their, related to my task.. Although It seems like there, we can get the list of swatches name and from the name we can get the color values. And after that I can match the values with the fill color of selected art object. What I am looking here something like, set the rgb values in the keys and by using action manager code I can get the swatch name.

Now what I want here is that, I have rgb() values and I want to get the name of the swatches that the document have corresponding to those rgb values. Does it make sense? Thanks for the reply, I saw an API GetDistanceToBaseline, it is written in the documentation that this api is used to retrieves the distance to the baseline in the font. But It's not mention, distance to baseline from where? Is it from the ascent or mean line?
