Maybe I am misunderstanding.... the install of DNG converter advised to select a compatibility mode?   As to LR and not using on a new OS ... the LR6.14 works fine ... it does all I need it to do. RESOLVED - it's working again   I managed by searching old emails to find a Serial Number for V5 from 2014   For anybody else the steps were -   Download and install AAM https://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe//creativesuite/cc/win/ApplicationManager10.0_all.exe Re-install Lightroom folder  … mine was D:\Pictures\Lightroom This has the catalogue file Lightroom.lrcat Download Lightroom 6.1 installer package .. I got it from https://web.archive.org/web/20231220005239mp_/https://prdl-download.adobe.com/Lightroom/60BA1251F1BC48B8B82B1B63AE8E620E/1552643270580/Lightroom_6_LS11.exe%C2%A0 Start installer When it asks for Serial No. > enter V6 serial number > proceed It then fails advising a valid serial number, but no qualifying product could be found. In drop down select LR 5 Enter LR5 serial number Install proceeds It installs as V6.1.4 All images are there in library. I have logged into My Adobe account ... it only shows a V6 serial number If I deactivate it on old PC .. I will then have no LR working at all ... seem s high risk \Ther I went to the location you said ... C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Lightroom That folder is empty LR 6 is running on that PC so is installed & active I I go to : C:\users\name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom There are folders for 6.0, 6.7, 6.8, 6.13, and 6.14       nothing for 5.0 ... To help clarify - repeated teh steps again today. Pre-requistes – I have AAM v10    I have Lightroom V6 installer    Lightroom_6_LS11    I have my Adobe folder in pictures folder with Lightroom.lrcat file in place   I have my valid LR6 serial No (confirmed in My Adobe Account)   I install AAM 10 I run 6.1 installer Starts – unpacks Asks me to choose install or trial select install Open window for me to enter Serial number I enter, it advises valid serial number but wrong product It then gives attached screen garb,  where it asks me to select product. My W10 machine needed replacing so have a new W11 PC. Trying to install LR 6.1.4 I'm hoping we have someone knowledgeable on re-installs. I have my Serial Number I have installed AAM v10 I have the 6.1.4 installer I have in D:\Pictures\Lightroom   from my previous PC the Lightoom folder contents including the lightroom.lrcat file   I start the installer, it goes OK then comes to the input serial number window .... put that in, it then brings up the attached window It is a valid license but no valid product code. I have a previous exchange with Adobe support ... my license key was for Adobe 5, but I had bought from them an upgrade to upgrade to 6 ... at that time, the response was 'Select LR5 as the product but its OK your installer will install 6'   If I select 5 it won't accept it. Anybody know how I can get LR6 working on my new PC ? I know Adobe Servers no longer support 6 ... but can I install as a standalone ?   I still have access to old PC   I appreciate Cloud subscriptions are preferred, but being retired its not something I can justify   ... I think there is a very important thing discovered here.   If I take a picture with my phone that produces native DNG files, if I take them with my camera they are RW2 files but I need to convert to DNG, I use Adobe DNG converter to do this. I just retested as many changes and tests have been carried out. 2 new photos were loaded onto desk top Native DNG file is correct and has thumbnail Native RW2 file does not have a thumbnail Converted DNG initially no thumbnail but if I leave it for a few minutes it does add thumbnail. Picture attached (files on desktop) show the 4 files: Native dng JPEG version Camera RW2 Camera Converted dng   All show as they should with correct thumbnails. The location of this folder is      C:\Users\Rick\Desktop\Test Files       My ‘Pictures’ folder is located on a different drive (as is all my saved data)      E:\My Pictures I copied the test folder to the same drive as “Pictures” folder:   E:\Test Files The thumbnails are no longer showing – see picture (moved to E drive)     So it appears to me that W10 is working with thumbnails correctly when files are on C:\    but not when files are on E:\       is there some parameter or settings I need to set at a drive level ? Both drives are physically in the same PC so no network is involved.   Anybody know what I should be looking at for Drive level parameters.   ... View more

If only it was as easy as installing W10   ..  a new install is quick enough, it's a huge effort to reinstall all the applications.  Plus the nightmare with license codes - the last time I reinstalled took days to get everything working again., weeks later still having issues with missing drivers and such.   If I have to I will, but looking for alternate options first.   I did take this to Microsoft support ... as there are many p[eople rasing same problem on Microsoft Community, and after many similar suggestion to thoise made here ... they then gave formal postion: Kirito - MSFT Microsoft Agent  |   Moderator Replied on February 2, 2024Report abuse Hello, welcome to the Microsoft community. #1  done #2  this is at the Explorer level, not on the individual folder ... it is set this way at Explorer level.  On new folder set folder type in properties as 'pictures' #3 Create new files ..... Here is pic of them in a folder on desk top  #4 Moved them to a new folder same drive as other 'picture' folder.     The files no longer have Thumbnails   - see pic   I moved files to DropBox as a test ... icons stay as Thumbnails   The 'Picture' folder is stored on my E: Drive  (as are Music & Video folders)  The OS is on C: Drive. As part of a test - I copied 2 x DNG with thumbnail and 2 x DNG without thumbnails to a USB stick  .... the ones without Thumbnails still had no Thumbnail on another W10 machines. LightRoom on my PC does see the files as DNG and imports them happily into Library   Interesting observation .... Following advice to avoid going to W11 currently. It's not a W10 issue anyway, as I have tested it on my W10 laptop and DNG files display thumbnails. Looks like I have some W10 spefic problem on my PC ....  I did ask the same Q on Microsoft support, they answered that this is not a standard MS file format and I should log a fault with Adobe.    They did add that as there are a significant number of people reporting the same problem, to complete a MS feedback form - which I did. ... A lightbulb has come on.,  (maybe) I created a new folder under 'My Pictures' As soon as I copied in the test file form camera it  appeared with Thumbnail, but not the other.   It would suggest that there is something amiss with folder attributes .... anybody aware of a way to to fix ? ......  Can I force attributes of this 'new' folder to be applied to all folders within 'My Pictures' ...
