Well, alrighty then. Do you have a link for the perpetual license version (retronym) of Acrobat 2020, perchance? I said it still should work because it was working with my version of Windows 10 20H2 and Word 2019 32-bit 16.0.10373.20050 and then stopped. Sean

Hi, Having Adobe issues lately. Now, Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.23 won't work in Word. I can open this version of Acrobat, but save as PDF and the Acrobat plug-in give an error. Weird. It seems I screwed up copying-and-pasting the AASSIapp.exe file, which is what solved the problem. Adobe got back to me before my employer's support staff did. Fantastic. All set. The solution is to get AASSIapp.exe and copy it over the existing file. Sean

Hi, AASSIapp.exe was already in the P7 folder. I used the link and placed the copy of AASSIapp.exe in P& overwriting the original anyway. IE had not been set up on my PC, but I gave it a go, it was IE 11. I installed Edge anyway. I cannot uninstall IE. Chrome is my default browser. I kept checking along the way and nothing worked. I want to try uninstalling and reinstalling FM, which is a subscription, but my PC is managed and I cannot uninstall FM 2019 without being an Admin, which I am apparently not. Any more thoughts? FWIW, InDesign 2019 also a subscription opens fine on this same computer. Sean

Today, I found out that I cannot sign in to FM 2019. I get a Sign-In Now dialog box and click Sign in. Then, I see an error, "Update Required Your browser or operating system is no longer supported. You may need to install the latest updates to your operating system." I am using Windows 10 all patched up and have tried the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox without success. Help? Cheers, Sean

When I inspect the heading in Acrobat, I see it is 13 pt. Microsoft YaHei, which is correct and what it is in FrameMaker. However, in the PDF the characters are different than in FrameMaker and in the PDF the characters are wrong. The Chinese body text, which is correct both in FrameMaker and also in the PDf, is 11 pt. Hi, I have a problem. I am trying to PDF Chinese in FrameMaker 15.02.503 and the words are coming out incorrectly. The font used is Microsoft YaHei and the problem occurs in my heading style but not in the body style. Completely reasonable thoughts. However. I wouldn't mind if I bought the software on DVD/USB, verified the serial number one time, and then, thereafter, the software never automagically phoned home to verify it was still valid or broken enough to need an update. I don't mind occasionally checking the manufacturer for an update to dowload from an FTP site. Cheers, Sean

Great point about bug fixes and internal updates. Loading images without delay is an excellent example of the latter, if not both of these . However, from my perspective, I don't want to have to spend real money to get bug fixes and internal updates, if that makes sense. I'm the same way with security fixes, too, honestly. So, for this thread, nothing changed after I applied the new update today. This remains true: "In the Publish pod, if Use Acrobat Distiller is selected, the transparent PNG background becomes white. If Use Distiller is not selected, the PNG's background remains transparent." Notice that using Distiller is recommended for PDFmarks, which would be used sending the document for print. The lack of transparency would be inconvenient in this case. Sean

I get it. But, in my trenches, upgrading every year doesn't make sense. Sure, I'll install patches as they are released, but otherwise just let me use what I have. I can get my work done with one stable version for several years before any new version offers a feature that is significant to me. At home, I have Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver running great on a "perpetual" license, bought before CC (perpetual license, love the retronym). At the office, after years of using Illustrator and Photoshop, I bought CorelDRAW suite because I have the CD and don't need to rent. Over four years, it's saved the budget a wee bit and hassle a wee bit. Cheers, Sean

As a follow up, the document is loading fine now. The content I had trouble with, the table of contents, is Minion Pro, which I know is a standard font for Adobe stuff. However, what is curious is that the toc is the only place Minion Pro seems to be used. Everywhere else, body text is Callibri (which, along with Comic Sans, makes me think of Microsoft Word), as also are headings. Weird that a serif font would be used in the body of the toc and nowhere else. I wonder what the design thoughts behind that decision were? Cheers.

I have not been using FrameMaker a ton over the past several years. As a result, I forgot the shortcut to refresh the FrameMaker display. (It's ctrl + L.) Anyway, why does FrameMaker 2019 need to be refreshed to display images correctly? My laptop is a Core i7, 16 GB RAM, and has a Quadro discrete graphics card. That said, images load 3647.39% faster in FM 2019 on this laptop than they do in FrameMaker 12, so some good headway has been made. Thanks for that. Sean

From *my* usability perspective (YMMV), two things bother me about the Publish to PDF pod. 1) Source document doesn't switch to the active document. So, I have document AA.fm open and publish it to PDF, but BB.pdf is created from BB.fm, because that's the file in the Source Document field and it must be manually changed, or so it seems. 2) Output folder should default to the location of the source document. So, I select AA.fm as my source document and publish it to PDF, but I can't find the file because it published in the BB.fm folder, because I hadn't manually changed that. This annoyance is worse than item 1). 3) Having to track a settings file is just bothering me. Best practice advice on this would be appreciated. Cheers, Sean

How odd. And, oh dear. Windows 10 and FM 2019 all patched up here, viewing the PDF in Google Chrome. Reloaded a few times. Now the TOC displays fine. Someone needs more coffee, and I think that someone is the help PDF. Sean

NVM. I was trying to use object properties to set the line to 0 thickness or something like that. The correct method is to set the pen to none. However, FrameMaker shows a border around all pages, a border that doesn't print, and that was masking the absence of the actual border of the rectangle, which is the same size as the page. Sean

Hi, Just tested. I set the following for PDF in the Publish Pod: Open PDF Document on Page 1 At Zoom: Fit Page Layout: Default (note that using Distiller disables this control) Then: Saved the settings. Published the PDF. Viewed the PDF. PDF displays at 306% -- definitely not Fit Page. What am I doing wrong? Cheers, Sean
