I had a big interest in the Lenovo 17 inch Thinkpad p71 given the Thinkpads' reputation for durability until I realized that with even their highest graphics card option (Quadro P5000 mobile), the memory bandwith would be only 190Gb/s compared to 320Gb/s bandwith on the Alienware 17R4's GTX 1080 (notebook version).I've never heard so much emphasis be put on the memory bandwith of a GPU until I read section 5 of the /r/buildapcvideoediting wiki. Perhaps because I'm an ex-gamer and VRAM capacity is a big deal in gaming rigs, but not as much in video editing machines?From the wiki it seems like memory bandwith is like the most important thing to have in terms of editing speed, so I'd just like to confirm.How important is memory bandwith to live timeline rendering speeds and speeds in general in Adobe Premiere? How important a role does total VRAM capacity play in video editing speeds in general?

I know with the Ryzen chips, there's the "But software will be updated to better use cores so Ryzen chips may end up with the advantage in the future with software optimization" talk. I'm due for a an upgrade very soon and torn between a Ryzen 7 1800x or an i7 7800x. I probably won't upgrade for another 3 years at least so I am wondering about that possible core optimization and if by going Ryzen I will be winning out if Adobe ever decides to get Premiere to make more use of the cores.

Hi everybody,I currently trying to find an upgrade to my dual 24" dell ultrasharp monitors. I just want more screenspace espacialy while working in after effects. I do mostly mograph in ae, but also editing in premiere and 3D work in cinema 4d. I found this dell U2717D and this BenQ SW2700PT that sound fine. Hi,I have ordered parts for a new computer but need some help with my storage solution. I will be using a GH-5 most of the time for 4K footage. I will most likely only work with projects of a maximum of 10 minutes. In addition I have two external drives to use for backing up footage, 1x1TB and 1x3TB. Hello guys,So i've got 3 questions:1. Is everyone experiencing CPU bottleneck with Premiere?We mainly edit 4k h264 footage from DJI X5 RAW camera @ 60MbpsI know premiere is more CPU intensive in every way but i hate it so i have to make the rig work better.With the GTX 1080 i 've found that encoding times and render previews worked faster for a 1080p timeline and export.With the Radeo Pro Duo i 've experienced kind of slower exports (without resetting profiles) and render previews to about 20 seconds difference.Though i think that i get slightly better timeline editing performance with the Radeon.I really don't care about exporting time (reasonable times of course), my main concern is the real time timeline editing performance which i believe that's what all benchmarks should also include but mostly they don't. It is time for me to completely change out all my drives as they are getting a bit old and some are already showing warnings.In 95% of the time I use my computer for video editing My motherboard is Asrock Z77 Extreme6, I have 2x PCI-Express 3.0x16 slots and 2x PCI-Express 2.0x1 slots. One (cant check at the moment) is being used for my graphics card, others are free to use for m.2 SSDs.I'd like to keep and use my old Samsung 830 256GB SSD if it can be of use.The setup I have in mind is like this:drive 1:  SSD Samsung 850EVO 500GB for OS, programsdrive 2:  SSD Samsung 850PRO 500GB for all the original media files (clips I shoot, audio, photos, etc) in current projects that are being edited at the moment (some edits take up to 2 weeks) and premiere project filesdrive 3: my old Samsung 830 256GB for Media cache, previews, scratch diskdrive 4: HDD for exportWould you do it any other way? Hi,I am not very sure is my raid setup ok for the hardware use and I am not very familiar with benchmarks, can someone help to read the benchmark below:I use 2 x 4TB WD Gold in RAID0. Using the Intel controller in Asus Priome X299-Deluxe mainboard.I expected 400 MB/s speed and the results from the first roll (Seq) is more than expected, but I am not sure in all the 4KiB marks.I striped the ride from bios utility at 128 KB, and did format the disk in windows at 64kB unit size.Are all the 4KiB results from the bottom 3 rolls OK for this ride and the hardware I use?Please let me know, or if I need to re-format or build the RAID in BIOS again if necessary.Thanks

Hey guys,I can't play my videos well while editing. My CPU is overloaded while my GPU isn't used by Premiere... I got the GeForce GTX 1050 TiWhat I already did:- I created the cuda_supported_cards.txt file and added my card- I enabled the Mercury Playback Engine - GPU-Acceleration (CUDA) in the Project Settings in Premiere- I installed the newest driver for my GPU from the Nvidia website and mada a clean install.While playing or rendering a video, the GPU utilization doesn't rise. Premiere just ignores that i have a graphic card.Is there anything else I can do?Thanks for your help!Tommy

I just purchased a new iMac purely for editing 4K footage that I am capturing using my Mavic Pro Drone.  I purchased the Mac with an internal 500GB SSD drive and I also have an external 4TB drive (not SSD and probably slow).  I am not sure how to set up projects to take advantage of the power of the internal drive while ensuring all media is stored on the external drive so as not to use up the space on the internal drive too quickly.  I am sure this is a simple one so any help for this rookie is much appreciated.

The NVIDIA GEOFORCE P4000 is recommended for Photoshop. Is it also recommended for Adobe Premiere Pro. Are there issues using this Video card with Premiere Pro?[Moderator note: moved to best forum.]

Preface I am a Mac and PC person. My day to day can see me on one of my MBPs, or in my IT capacity I am on a PC and have supported and built many PCs over the years. I've recently decided to put up more videos, usually running 1-10 minutes long.I have noticed that working in Premiere on my longer videos that I am pushing the envelope on it's capabilities. Now I don't make any bones that this MBP is not mean to be a video editing beast, but I am now wondering if I should throw a PC at this issue to help speed up some of the editing and exporting capabilities.I have a MBP 3.1 GHz i7, 16GB Ram, 1TB SSD, and a Iris 6100. Paying back 1080 video can get choppy at times in Premiere so many times my preview settings are set on 1/2 to compensate. I do so basic enhancements and on average it seems that my export time is around 2.5x - 3x the length of the video. I am building a PC for video editings and would like to be able to use Premiere Pro. I don't expect that I will be editing in 4K but I before I purchase all of the components for the build I would like to get some feedback. I am in the midst of taking old videos and cleaning them up for TV Broadcast, and I use the dynamic link to create new AE comps to remove grain and key the footage, then edit the actual footage in Premiere Pro. Naturally this leads to a red timeline and skipped frames. The problem comes when I render the previews ( about 10 min sections at a time) it can take upward of 6 hours to render those 10 min sections. Hi, I'm after some advice with regards to upgrading my hardware to operate better with the latest Premiere Pro CC. A few years ago I bought a customised machine with CPU and GPU from AMD. This ran perfectly until about cc2015 and it has been very cumbersome ever since. I have turned to a less powerful laptop with intel processor to handle jobs but its time to bring my desktop up to speed for 4k projects (with proxies). My main question is: If I replace the CPU will that have the biggest impact on speed and compatibility or is it crucial to have a GPU with CUDA as well? Hey guys and gals -I just got a new Asus Rampage VI Extreme board, along with an Intel 7900X chip that was de-lidded by the folks at Silicon Lottery.  For record: they pull the IHS off the chip, clean out the horrible TIM that Intel uses, replace it with Liquid Metal, and seal the chip back up.  Then they overclock it as far as it can go and bin the resulting chips.  I got a 4.7GHz one from them.PPBM results here:"21","38","7","163", Premiere Version:, 12.0.0.224Anyway, I also purchased 64GB of RAM off of Asus' QVL; meaning it should hit an OC of 2400MHz.  Unfortunately, Asus' cruddy BIOS can't manage to OC it properly using the XMP profiles, so I've held off on pushing any further.  My question is: will a 2400MHz RAM OC improve the performance in Pr any?
