Hi,I've had a search around but not been able to find an answer.Can anyone tell me how I can connect a macbook pro to an external monitor.I have been watching some tutorials on youtube, and some people use usb-c monitors, and docking stations. But I'm unsure what cables I need to do this.On my to get list so far is:1. Monitor2 Keyboard3. Mouse4. Speakers5. Recently upgraded to Adobe CC 2017. Use Premiere Pro, Photoshop and occasionally After Effects.I am able to use these programs as needed however, my video editing is far from 'smooth'. Playback is jerky at times. Video will begin playing smoothly in the timeline but after a few seconds it will start to stutter. So I then have to stop the playback and restart it. Just creates way longer editing times that it needs to be.So my question is whether I should be looking at upgrading components of my current (older) PC or looking at a new build. Just trying to weigh costs involved vs performance gained.CURRENT BUILD:Win 7 Pro x64Intel Xeon E5-1620 @ 3.6GHz32gb RAMnVidia GTX 660 TITwo 1 TB HDD (Windows runs on one)One 256gb SSD (my cache files are on this)600 watt power supply(see image for additional info)I understand the costs involved in a newer GTX series card but would that alleviate my problem or is my processor going to be an issue regardless? I've been editing editing on a Lenovo thinkpad customized with an ssd, and it's time to upgrade to something more powerful. I've been doing research and have been seriously conflicted between two options. They have the same processor and graphics card, and mostly similar. I would love to hear your thoughts on this! Hi,I was speaking to another Forum member, Neil about some issues I was having with my MBP 2014 I7 Model, and he said that I would get some help here .Basically, I recently got into colour grading with Lumetri. However each time I add any effects to any of my clips, the video playback s really jumpy. As soon as remove the effect, and restart Premier, everything goes back to normal.After speaking to Neil, we came to the conclusion that my GPU is simply not powerful enough for grading.Laptop Specs:MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)2.2 GHz Intel Core i716 GB 1600 MHz DDR3Macintosh HDIntel Iris Pro 1536 MBIs there anything I can do to my current laptop to enable me to colour grade without any issues i.e. an external GPU?Or I am simply going to have to get another machine? HiI use an Imac in my office and work with After effects on small sales video jobs - nothing too fancy.  I need to get a macbook for my upcoming trips.  I am very reluctant to pay for the latest model since the touchpad is not that important for me.  I thought I might get a refurbished model.  What would be my most suitable configuration to run AE smoothly and render stuff in reasonable amounts of time?  Can I get away with a 2015 Macbook pro on 16mb ram?Thanks.

Hey guys,I'm looking to get a laptop for working on the go and am in need of some recommendations. Theses are some of the programs I use:Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere,  After effects, Nuke, Audition, Maya, zbrush, Cinima 4D, and at some point I also want to use some particle programs  - like Houdini - too.I have been looking at the new Dell Percision 5200, with customizing for $2432 I can get it with a: Intel core 17-7820HQ, 32G ram, Nvidia Quadro M1200 W/GB GDDR5, M.2 PCIe 512GB SSD (class 40), 6-cell (97wh) batteryI am open to suggestions for others, I am not as up to date on hardware as I would like to be. Any information of what to look for, or suggestions of laptops that seem like they might suit my needs would be appreciated. i have an asus m32dc desktop computer I currently use to edit videos is GoPro studio. I'm looking to start using premiere but not sure if my computer can handle it. Just looking for tips on what changes I would need to make and what version of pro I should get. I'm running windows 10 with intel core i5-6400 @ 2.7 ghz And 8gb of ram. Let me know what other specs you need. Someone suggested going back to windows 7 stating it runs smoother, so any opinions on that are welcome. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi everyone. I am looking for a new cpu that would run Premiere smoothly. I am currently on windows 10 but may have to switch to a mac (have to do Apple ProRez delivery's). The Mac Pro (trash can style) is just too expensive, and the mac mini is probably too slow so I was looking at an iMac. But a lot of what the affordable models have only have is an i5 processor. Would Premiere still run smoothly with something like that especially if I am editing 4k footage. Any advice would really be appreciated.[Moved to the Hardware Forum.]

  Hello there fellow creators! alil about myself, i do videos for my youtube channel. This is not a promotion so i wont link it unless anyone interested to know more of what i do to get a better picture to help me. That being said, i used to run APP using AMD's FX8350 CPU and a Quadro 2000 GPU. While its a cool processor, i thought to upgrade to get better work flow and smooth editing (as my AMD build gets real slow when i have a huge project). I upgraded to to intel i7 4790k CPU with Geforce GTX Titan Z. (I now have the Titan X Maxwell.) with all three GPU's Im seeing that the same thing happens when i have huge projects with effects and so on. I wondered how much of my GPU was adobe really using and i found out (with GPU and CPU monitoring software) that adobe is using about 10-20% of my GPU's power. My CPU its at 100% on playback (with huge project).  Ok so all that being said, im aware that GPU and CPU work together and that a slow CPU wont work well with a fast GPU etc.

Hi everyone,I am looking into purchasing the following laptop from Best Buy as below:HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 15.6" 4K Ultra HD Touch-Screen Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB Solid State Drive Bla… The only thing I'm worried about is the processor being dual-core (and not quad-core). From my research, quad-core is always better for video editing. However, since it has a 2.9-GHz 7th Gen i7-7500U CPU, would this laptop be sufficient for editing 4K resolution files in Premiere Pro?Any help is appreciated. Thank you.-Dean

Old PC64gb ddr34930k six core780tiI work on red epic raw 8k footage and I'll tell you using neat video or sharpening will make the footage go from 10 minute render time with no effects to 56 minute render time if I apply those effects. What assists in faster render times the cpu, gpu or ram? I didn't notice a huge jump when I upgraded from 32 to 64. Would it better to buy something like 4 top of the line AMD cards? Or 1 gtx 1080? Im seeing workstations just aren't viable and way too expensive for me to be worth it. I was thinking new build would be 128gb ram ddr4gtx 1080 6900k 8 core processor 4ghz overclockedWill I see a massive increase in render times? Or just marginal? Would it be better if it was 32 gb ddr4 ram four amd r9's? Also I want to do a little bit of 3d simulations, so I'm guessing that's gpu intensive more so than cpu and ram... I'm unsure what to get... Hey, I'm having trouble with my trial of Premiere Pro CC 2017. I searched the forum but didn't see a recent post for this question, so I thought I'd start one. I am getting ready to build new computers for our editing suite. With 4K video being here, I'm wonder on what elements I'll need to build a machine for Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects that can handle multiple cameras of 4K video without lag and that renders quickly. I decided to download a trial version of Adobe Premiere because I just switched from Mac to a custom-built Windows. Unfortunately, I have not been able to have the program work for me at all. It opens up fine, but when I import media all I get is a gray or white screen when I try to preview it. There's no audio when I scrub music files, and no video when I scrub on the preview/timeline. I've tried different file types (.mp4 and .wmv for example) but no luck. In addition to that, it crashes every time I try to quit out of it without fail. At this point, I'm wondering if it's something to do with my system requirements, and if so, if there's any suggestions on what I should try to change. Any help would be appreciated! I have a 5k iMac and am just starting to dabble in 4K editing. It's really choppy. Unfortunately I only have the 2gb graphics card. I'm thinking about updating the fusion drive with an ssd to increase performance. Finances are pushing me for a smaller ssd and will be storing th media on an external usb 3 drive. If the media will be in a non ssd external drive is there any point to the upgrade? With a 500gb I do have the option of doing everything on the internal drive and then transferring it for storage but that seems like a pain.

About Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration: Works fine with Premiere Pro CC 2015, but not with Premiere Pro CC 2017. Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce CTS 250. What to do?

I recently downloaded the latest version of PP 2017 and immediately discovered it does not support my Windows 10 CUDA GPU. I've had extreme problems in the past every time I upgraded PP and was told to buy a new Computer. I did. I bought a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series (Alienware) Laptop. PP 2015 works just fine on it but 2017 apparently does not support my CUDA GPU. When I open a previous project or try to create a new one, I get a warning message that PP does not recognize my CUDA card. The Video rendering and Playback option allows only 'Mercury Playback Engine Software Only.'  (And yes, I updated my GPU driver).         This machine is about 7 months old so I have three questions.1) Do I need to buy a new computer (new GPU card) every time I update Premiere Pro? If not2) Is there a bug in this version that does not offer CUDA support? If so,3) Will the next update of PP offer CUDA support?My machine specs:Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series
