Playback Problem on Old System with New Version of Premiere Pro

I have had good playback on my 2013 PC system with 6 core and GTX 680 running Premiere Pro (14.0.0) but now it is choppy on fast forward. Using PP (13.1.5) there is no problem. It seems like the latest version does not like my GPU.

Correct answer

I have not looked at GPUs in a long time. What happened to the DVI ports? I guess it is all HDMI now? I have decided to wait 6 months and put together a new system. I am looking to copy the Puget system 4K workstation.  That system has these components:

Intel Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB Open Air?

Have you built a system using PCI-E M.2 for storage? My thought is to have a 500MB C: drive for Windows and applications and a 2TB 😧 drive for Premiere Pro projects.

And again, don't buy a new graphics card until you've tried this driver with the GTX 680: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/155644/en-us

Unfortunately, your GPU is very old. Although the newest drivers technically support that GTX 680, which dates all the way back to 2012 (that's seven years already), it just does not have the capabilities that newer-gen GPUs have that Adobe software makes good use of. As a result, Adobe prefers that you use a GPU that was introduced no earlier than 2016 in order for Premiere Pro to run properly.

You are saying that my GTX 680 worked fine with the previouse version PP 13.0 but the latest version of PP 14.0 has changes in it that cause it to work poorly with my GTX 680. The problem is that I don't want to buy a new GPU for my 2013 that works well. Which GPU would you suggest?

Which 6-core CPU do you currently have? I do not like to give recommendations for a new GPU without knowing what you have because you might end up wasting money for a GPU that might be way overkill for your CPU.

I should not need to do trouble shooting. The older version is fine. There is a change in the new version that is messing up my GPU acceleration. Could you give me the location of the file that contains the supported GPU models?

Actually I had good playback with my system up to version (14.0.0)
