Question

Adobe tells me that I was stupid for upgrading

Yeah. I had Adobe essentially tell me in another forum that I was stupid for upgrading to their new editing software mid-project even though I explained that I have auto-updates turned on and wasn't even aware that it would download and install an entirely new version of Premiere and then auto-open that new version when I opened a new project. I am currently working on reporting their behavior. The Adobe staff that runs these forums is pretty rude.

I hope that no one at Adobe was so rude that they called you stupid. That's uncalled for. That said, it's a rule of thumb to avoid updating projects midway through them no matter what software you are using. This "rule of thumb" was actually taught to me by Hollywood editors at Avid Bootcamp over a decade ago.

So, please don't take this piece of sage advice as a personal affront. It's not meant as such.

I have auto-updates turned on and wasn't even aware that it would download and install an entirely new version of Premiere and then auto-open that new version when I opened a new project. I am currently working on reporting their behavior.

You can always run two versions side by side. So, even if the application is deleted and a new one is installed (in your scenario), you can still reinstall the earlier version and continue moving forward with your project using the most appropriate version. Sorry, but you have to be aware of these things going on in the background in order to safeguard your project. Hope that advice helps.

Really sorry if you felt that way. I hope we can make you feel more welcome in the future.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

I was told that the laggy issue I was experiencing “simply wasn't true”        by the very same adobe wombats.
