AUTO SAVE is a JOKE. This is not a professional software package without it

AutoSave works most reliably if you've manally saved the project right off. And early on in my use of Premiere ... CS6 ... I had a major problem that I expected Autosave to get me out of, but it didn't. And I got some very good advice here.

First ... Autosave by nature is only capable of so much. For example, you're setting it to five minutes, 20 saves. That's twelve saves per hour. If it works perfectly, in an hour and a half, it starts overwriting saves. What could possibly go wrong?

You start on a sequence around 10am, set some major rough cuts in, Go on to something else, take lunch, and come back and work a  bit. Then go back to that first sequence a bit after 2pm, and ... it's corrupted, won't open. Go to your Autosaves ... and they're all bad.

Because the corruption happened just long enough 'ago', that it got overwritten on all extant autosaves. You are royally and totally hammered. And yet, autosave worked perfectly!

We got our fist computer in our shop back in the late 80's. NONE of the programs that were our major apps for business are even made anymore, haven't been for years. One thing we learned a long, long time ago ... never ever trust the computer. Period. Especially autosave type functions.

Set them up, of course!

But do manual Ctrl/S saves every so often. And if it's a really curcial project, any time you complete a bit of the work, do an iterative save-as named to easily see the sequence of the project, and keep working forward through those iterative saves. Saved in a different drive than your autosaves.

Save-a-copy at each major break to a different location. Or use cloud storage for part of it.

These things will actually save your bacon a lot better, more reliably than autosave.
