Question

I bought a garage to shoot videos in

OK, so I actually bought a house that has a garage. Same thing, right? Just think, a place to hang a green screen and attach lights to the ceiling. And just think, an office without a bed in it, just like the old days before I moved back to California over four years ago. There isn't really a way to put in a permanent smooth transition from wall to floor like I had hoped, but I can hang a cloth in a place where I will be able to control the light.  I may even bite the bullet and bring in an electrician to put some heavier electrical wiring into a new heavy duty breaker box run from the main.

Finally, someone accepted our offer and didn't hold my need for a VA loan against me. These folks have both daughters in the service and preferred to sell to a veteran instead of complaining that it is harder to deal with a VA loan. The Veterans Administration does make it tougher, but not that bad if you don't have termites or black mold, or dry rot.

It will be a few weeks before we can close, and anoth one before we can move in, even if all goes well, and my wife will keep me pretty busy at first, but I think I am going to attempt some chroma key work as one of the first of my projects.

    San Lorenzo.

My wife and I both work in Oakland.

We came back to California in 2009 after I lost a good paying job that allowed me to live in less expensive places, most recently near Disney World in Florida. I have been underemployed since then. (I am available if Adobe needs a new Evangelist! I give great Trade Show presentations.)

The price I am paying for a house in a middle-class neighborhood is over twice what my last house sold for and it was on the golf course, overlooking the ninth fairway, a lake, then a forest.

But the indor kitchen is killer, and the outdoor kitchen is fantastic.

Here is a link to some pictures. It just took me five minutes in Muse to put together this show. These are not my pictures, and if the person who posted them originally couldn't seem to make a decision on how they should be sized, let alone cropped. But the pictures themselves are not bad for a Real Estate photographer.

No pictures of the garage. It was crammed full of stuff so there would not have been a point to even trying to take a picture.

    Steven

By UK standards that is quite some house, what size 2000 ft sq?

Your Florida house also sounds great, I did look at buying a home in Florida in 2004, to rent out but to many builds going on, to much competition.  Great size, great outlooks and great weather

The lounge and kitchen you have are as big as my own house or rather bungalow (single storey), its the only place I have lived that is smaller than my last property yet cost $80,000 more & I do not live in an expensive City

Type in Google UK PR2 9HE and go into maps and street view to see a standard UK box house built 20 years ago these are near where I now live as I moved a whole 400 yards away

These are typical UK homes with a floor area 900 to 1200 ft sq and a cost of $300,000 to $450,000

Good luck with that. How large is the garage?

Pretty standard 20X20 I think. It was hard to tell because it was rather full of the stuff they will be taking with them.

I was hoping for the back wall to be "mine" to do with as I wish, but the laundry facilities and sink are there. So it will be a side wall, and I can't really curve that since I will need to be able to get out of the car without my feet sliding down a wall.

Sigh. Oh well. You can't always get what you want.

The place is set up for a party. Outdoor kitchen, lots of shade to set up tables and chairs. No need for a bucket of ice for the beer since the outdoor kitchen has a fridge. The indoor kitchen is quite large and the family room is a good size. How do I define good size? Any room that can handle a 60" or bigger HDTV.

Congrats Steven - you can maybe post pictures, when your studio is ready?
