Long time users who depend of the software simply WORKING are simply being ignored
Hero! The trouble with so many of us nowadays is that we work in small groups or as individuals and are away from the easy chat-by-the-coffee-machine scenario of the old days of big specialist editing companies. We need to able to vent our spleen and learn from like-minded others of issues that get in the way of a good professional life. And we can't as we work in silos.
We have been watching Adobe screw with Premier (and other Adobe programs - lest not forget) when - and I agree whole heartedly with this forum - we long time users who depend of the software simply WORKING are simply being ignored.
Final cut pro x - oh my god what a mess that was - leading to sooo many jumping ship and coming to a 'far more stable and professional platform over here at Adobe land'. Yea right..
Yes, I know Adobe is huge and successful, built on the cash sums I regularly paid for various versions and upgrades of PP etc from the very early days. Quite big lump sums they were too - shoring up the Adobe company's success. Then the pay monthly routine kicked in and suddenly the company is too big to care about 'early adopters' and is going all out for new users in 'new media' - many making cat videos. Oh, and this pay by the month system is cunning 'customer retention' system - once they get a certain number of users - upping the cost by a pound (dollar) a month doesn't sound much - multiply that be ...what...5 million + users?? Per month?! What happens when I hang up my editing shoes and simply want the program for occasional fun use going forward? I'll have to keep paying that's what...grrr.
We work in proper television. Make proper programmes. Proper documentaries. We fix and adapt many, many high level TV commercials for global brands and get them on air all over Europe. We do NOT want a program designed for newbees. Neither do we want to re-learn all our cunning and fast workarounds in all aspects of project finishing. I could boast, once, of being able to do a basic edit with my eyes shut. Party trick. Everything in its' place and a place for everything. At my age I do NOT want to more and more learning of a tool to replace one that worked perfectly well last week. Especially one which demands 10 more commands than it used to for the simplest of jobs. Progress in its' place.
How long has it taken the programmers to (almost) fix the new titling tool? One that, in our opinion, is less of a titling tool than the now 'legacy' one - and takes twice as long to sort the simplest of titles? I know, I know its old programming ...but what would you rather drive ..a Prius or a 1955 XK140?
Rant over.
Thanks for the good forum advice on sorting out the new, unwanted and in-your-face export window. It took some time on our various devices to streamline the layouts and dropdowns as suggested and yes - it works. Just. But my geek and I did this over 4 hours today - not that anyone at Adobe is paying me for that time.
Again...
