Accessing references in text

Is there anyway you can access references while staying on the page you are reading. Ideally, I would think, you would just have to click on the superscript reference number and the reference would come up in a dialogue box. its so annoying having to go to reference section, read reference, then go back to page you were reading (if you haven forgotten the page number!)
