Acrobat DC Mac still not open password protected pdf with hyphen

Hey Adobe Support,

As of today (Jan 26) Mac with Apple Silicon Acrobat is still not opening password protected pdfs with a hyphen.

This issue exists since a couple of years, my tax accountant always sends me pdfs with his default password which, unfortunately, includes a hyphen.

Opening this with Mac OS Preview works without any hassle,

System: MacOS 26.2, M1

Acrobat: 2025.001.21145

As it works in mac preview I still can narrow this down to Acrobat.

Preferences reset did not help.

Any ideas?

    I do agree.

    @Rolfwenzel is it an em-dash – or en-dash - ???

    Two different ones! Double check the macOS keyboard layout hasn't defaulted to a "Smart Dash" setting that converts a standard hyphen. Go to System Settings - Keyboard - Text Input - Edit, and turn off 'use smart quotes and dashes'

    Hey, that’s indeed an idea which wouldn't be in my first row. Unfortunately I tried this and it didn't make any difference. (Was active)

    Further on in MacOS Preview it works fine, so I can’t blame the OS for that.
