Acrobat hangs opening Print dialog on Win 10 Pro
I just help set up a new Windows 10 Pro machine (with all the latest updates from Microsoft) and when we tried to install the copy of Acrobat that had been working for the past eight years, Adobe told us it was counterfiet. So we uninstalled Acrobat and installed the latest Acrobat Reader.
When we try to print a document from Acrobt Reader, Windows reports that "the program has stopped responding" before we see any hint of the print dialog that should appear. We found some suggestions that might fix the issue using Edit|Preferences, and that dialog comes up with all of its text in what appears to be a strange bold, italic, underlined font that is barely readable (sadly, it turned out the suggestions were obsolete.)
So, I uninstalled Acrobat Reader, rebooted the computer, and installed a copy of reader that I had downloaded back on 8/2/2021 with the file name "AcroRdrDC2100520058_en_US.exe" and it, too, crashes when I try to open the print dialog. However, this version also crashes when I try to open the Preferences dialog as well!
We have never, ever seen this before and have no idea where to go or how to proceed to correct these issues.
In addition to what I described above, we have already
- scanned all of the installers (and installed packages) for viruses
- rebooted the system multiple times
- installed the printers the day before we started working with Acrobat (the supposedly counterfiet version), so they all have the latest available drivers
I'm starting to suspect that something was left behind after Adobe proclaimed our old Acrobat installer to be counterfiet that is interfering with the proper operation of all Adobe products. However, I'm open to (and hoping for) better suggestions!
