since this is just a reply, i hope someone notices, and helps me out. eb 09 23 18

    hi there.

    i'm using reader only.

    Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

    v 2018.011.20040

most uploads are identified with ".pdf"

but here's a sample of one with a pdf sidebar link which i frequently select

    USCA Mandate

    sidebar link:

    https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4569168/USCA-Mandate.pdf

when the link opens, in order for me to access tools i use, i need to save the pdf to my hard drive, which i regularly do:

    2018 Jun 28 USCA.DC X.18.X5032 [Sept 2017 term][filed 2018 May 07] @ Doe v Mattis [cons. w 18.5110, 1738234, 1.17.cv.02069.TSV] DocXX 2p MANDATE affirm DisCo judgement

so having done this, in addition to saving pdfs which open directly from links, i have pdfs which i can add comments or highlighting to as i am following progress on a particular filing.

"usually" the selected highlight tool presents an "I-beam" for text selection.

but there are pdfs which present a "circle" which works, but makes a wobbly mark (that sometimes self-straightens).

it is in these instances when Reader crashes and i must "end task" via Windows "Task Manager."

it only hurts to do this when i have loaded up Reader with tabs of pdfs i'm working on.

Reader does automatically (seemingly) auto-remember ... but i'm never positive.

at any rate, i know of no dependable workaround for this.

it's up to me to close pdfs BEFORE i start working with one of these odd pdfs, in order to satisfy myself that changes were saved.

i thank you for reading all this.

i hope some of it helps others.

i also hope you are familiar with the "circle" highlighter, as i suspect Reader is doing its best with a badly-converted document.

and now, it's time for lunch.

    regards
