Acrobat Reader DC too slow PC with Win 10 -- removal and reinstall doesn't help

It is now taking me more than 15 seconds to open a pdf file on my PC with Win 10 and more than that to print the file.  Previously, things ran as expected.  I have tried to use the fix option.  I then removed the program and reinstalled it.  No improvement.  Next I downloaded the Adobe Acrobat removal tool and ran it.  I restarted the PC a couple of times and then downloaded the Reader DC from the Adobe site.  The behavior is still the same.  I even tried turning off my antivirius program.  Any suggestions?
