Acrobat READER - disable check for updates/pop-up message for standalone interpretation solution?

I've read support contributions where users have asked for help disabling the Acrobat Pro auto update features and wondered if anyone could please help with the same for Acrobat READER? I have a project where I'm creating a standalone interpretation solution showing digital content on a touchscreen. Using a Mac Mini M4, my preference is to utilise Acrobat READER to display an interactive PDF. I can get all of this working except that periodically, Acrobat READER displays a pop-up message saying that it has been unable to check for updates (the Mac Mini M4 is NOT going to be connected to the internet). I need to be able to disable the pop-up message as it allows access to the Mac Mini/system settings etc., which I must not let the viewer have. Please can anyone help me with a way to disable the pop-up message and checking for updates for Acrobat READER? Thanks and kind regards, Adrian.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.

Acrobat Reader and Acrobat regularly checks for important updates, downloads them, and installs them automatically.

Note: You cannot change updater preferences for Adobe Acrobat Reader.

For more information, please check the help page https://adobe.ly/4q1iQGR

Hope this information will help

Hi Amal, yes I'm well thanks - hope you are, too. Thanks for the reply. As the computer I'm using for the interpretation isn't connected to the internet in any way, I don't mind not being able to change updter preferences but I need to stop the pop-up message appearing which says Adobe Acrobat Updater is unable to check for the latest updates - can this not be stopped/turned off? Also, I have checked the preference 'do not show messages to/from Adobe when viewing a document' - should this stop the message from appearing? Please help. Thanks and kind regards, Adrian.

Hi there, thanks for your question!

Since your system isn’t connected to the internet, it's understandable that the Adobe Updater pop-up would be frustrating. Unfortunately, simply checking “Do not show messages to/from Adobe when viewing a document” does not disable update-related notifications — that preference only suppresses in-document messages (like product tips or marketing banners), not system-level updater alerts.

If your device is managed (organizational environment), your IT admin might have locked update settings. In those cases, the service or group policies control the updater and you’d need IT assistance to adjust them.

Hope this information will help
