Question

Acrobat Reader not accepting password with hyphen (minus sign)

Hello,

I have a few PDF files which are password protected with date of birth (in DD-MM-YY format). Adobe Reader keeps throwing an error "The password is incorrect. Please make sure that the Caps Lock key is not on by mistake, and try again" whenever I try to open any of these.

The same file opens fine on Safari after entering the password and also on Acrobat Reader (Windows). So, am guessing this is an isolated issue on Mac.

I recently updated to Ventura, not sure if that has something to do with it.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong?

Cheers,

Hi @ctrl_altdel

Sorry for the delay in response.

Have you started having trouble with this issue after switching to the latest Mac OS or Acrobat Reader? Was it working fine earlier?

To further investigate this, can you share a sample file with us along with its Password?

The issue is not reproducible at our end, so we need to look into the file you are working with.

Note: you can send me a private message by clicking on my profile. For file sharing, upload the file on any cloud storage and share the link.

Thanks,

Akanchha

I have the same problem. I could open such a file last year, and I can open the file on a Mac running Monterrey.
But with my Mac running the latest OS Ventura I cannot open the file any longer.
I upgraded to Mac OS Ventura 13.0.1 recently

Hi @Kristof2743847725le

Sorry for the delay in addressing your issue.

As requested above, could you please share a sample file(along with its password) with us via Private message?

Also, do you experience this issue only with the files with passwords, including hyphens?
