Acrobat Reader requires me to verify my identity and log in every time I open a document.

This happened before and it's happened again, spontaneously today: Acrobat Reader DC is requiring me to verify my identity and log in EVERY time I open a document. This is crazy making.

Chat told me to uninstall and reinstall. Done.

Chat told me to set my default to Acrobat Reader DC. It already was.

Chat told me to come here... so here I am.

PDFs opened fine yesterday. What happened, and how do I fix it?
