Acrobat shows "No results found" before searching!!!

Acrobat reading a PDF file.   I pull up search, type something.  It shows “No results found” before I press return!   Then I press Return, and it shows me the search results.

This is just plain wrong.  If you haven’t searched, don’t tell me there are no results.  AND if I don’t know about this behavior, I might actually believe that it searches as I type, and there really are no results.  And I might not go ahead and press Return.

    Amal:

    I would like to say:

I am really shocked by this behavior of Acrobat.  The idea that some person programmed “no results found” before searching is really incredible.  And no one at Adobe checked this and fixed it?  And no one has complained before?

Does Adobe have records of who programmed what?  And who checked it?  (Years ago, blueprints (they were actually blue) had a box in the corner “Designed by” and “Checked by”.  Things could fall down and kill people.  Responsibility.)  So I’ll repeat the questions: Does Adobe have records of who programmed what?  And who checked it?   (Please answer “Yes”, “No”, or “I don’t know.”)

Of course we can guess the answer: Adobe has no idea who programmed this.  So there’s no one who gets a “Committed an error of judgement” in his or her personnel record.

    ….

    Hi there

Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out. We are sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

I have tried to reproduce the issue at my end and the Acrobat Application is working fine. Would you mind shairng the version of the Acrobat Application and the OS you are using? Go to help > About Acrobat and try updating it to the latest version available from Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

If it still doesn’t work, please share a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs for further investigation.

Before I reply let me say:

    (1) The “View Reply” Button in your email to me did not work.

    (2) To reply to this, I had to find the right web site, log in (old password did not work … had to make a new one).  Lots of time.

    (3) Acrobat (like many apps today) has abandoned the “Help” menu, which conveniently had the version and date of the app right there.  So I had to go to Settings, etc, to look up:

This is Adobe Acrobat 26.001.21.21431 4/16/2026   Windows 11.  A fancy new Dell laptop.

Here’s the problem: Use Acrobat to look at a file.  Pull up Search.  Type something you know is in the file.   DO NOT HIT ENTER.  What does it say?  Mine says “no results found”.  Then hit Enter.  Then it shows the results.

Amal: Do you work for Adobe?
