Question

Adding security to my PDFs

I'm hoping this is the right forum I couldn't find one for acrobat professional. I am wanting to add security to my PDF books to prevent people from copying part or the whole of my book to a separate file. I have created a PDF file then opened it inside professional, gone into the security section and added the required restrictions. Saved the changes saved the file and exited the file. I've noticed that it takes quite a long time for save to finish. However when I go to check the file size I've noticed that the size has blown from about 5 Mb megabytes  to 22 MB. Is this normal it seems ridiculous that the adding DRM to my file has added an extra 17 MB to the file size

Adding security shouldn't increase the size much.

Try this.

- open the file

- use SAVE AS (not just save)

- check the size

- set security

- use SAVE AS to a new name

- check the size

What do you see?

By the way, this is essentially worthless because many common PDF viewers just ignore the rules. All your files can instantly be copied, shared, anything.

I noticed that when I compress the file on one of the online compression site, all of the security was stripped off. Apart from DRM which  comes at a cost is there any other means of protecting the file from text copying? Is there any better technology that is less prone to this?

What DRM does you use?

Thanks for your reply  I was a bit  hasty  when I inseeted the term DRM in my original question.  it's not DRM. All I've done is added some rules to restrict people's ability to be able to copy and altar the file. I noticed that when I added security rules to the file and saved it the file size has blown out substantially. That was the substance of my question. PS I attempted to edit the original post but after a few minutes couldn't find an edit button.
