Adjusting Margins when printing in Booklet mode

Margins are too wide when printing a booklet, causing the font size to be too small.  How do I adust?  The margin setting seems to be greyed out.

thanks

You can reduce/eliminate margins using Print Production  - Set Page Boxes and check the box Remove White Margins. In the PAge Range box, select All.

None of these have worked for me.  I’ve saved it to Microsoft print, and then opened a new pdf and that didn't work.  And now I’ve “Removed White Margins” and that didn't work either.    Nothing gets rid of these giant margins!

    Hello @Radiant_Gem771d

Hope you are doing well, and thanks for the update. Sorry the earlier suggestions haven't worked.

There's a deeper reason for this that explains why both fixes fell short: Acrobat's booklet printing feature scales your pages down to fit within your printer's unprintable margin area, even if your PDF content itself has no white space. So even after using Remove White Margins on the file, the printer driver can still be reimposing its own margins at print time. That's a different problem than the PDF's content, which is likely why neither approach fully worked.

The workaround that gets around this is to define a custom, margin-free page size in your printer driver, not in Acrobat:

    1. On Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Printing Preferences (or Printer Properties, depending on your printer).

    2. Look for an option like Custom Page Size, Advanced, or Paper/Output.

    3. Create a new custom size matching your paper's actual dimensions (for example, 8.5 x 11 inches), and set all four printer area margins to 0.

    4. Save that custom size, select it as your paper size, then print the booklet from Acrobat again using that custom size.

This tells Acrobat it has the full physical page to work with, rather than shrinking pages to fit inside the printer's default margins. Not every printer driver supports zero-margin custom sizes, so results can vary by printer model.

If your printer or its driver doesn't allow this, some office multifunction printers have their own built-in booklet-maker feature that bypasses Acrobat's imposition entirely, which may be worth checking as well.

Let us know if the custom page size approach helps.

    Regards,
    Amal

By far the best way, in Windows, when printing the PDF, instead of selecting your hard printer, select "Microsoft Print to PDF". When using this option, select "Fit" and don't specify booklet. You will then create a PDF whose name you can choose, in any folder you specify.

Open this new PDF, and print the booklet in the normal way, to your normal printer. You should find that the unwanted margins diappear. This works in Adobe Reader and Pro.

As a workaround you can use the crop pages option: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/using/crop-pdf-pages.html

I tried printing some notes , but the margins are just on the wrong side of the booklet . I need them to be away from the edge to be stapled. Please guide me if someone knows.

    Hi Jamesb9908071,

Is it with a particular document or with all files?

Margin settings can't be adjusted during print as each printer has its specific margin set.

its printer specific issue where in some specific printer you can adjust the margin but not in all.

you can try the steps mention below to see if that helps-

    • Open the PDF document in Adobe Reader.
    • Click "File" on the main menu bar and choose "Print."
    • Open the drop-down menu next to "Print Scaling" and choose "None."
    • Click "OK."

    Regards,

    Akanchha

The problem relates to all booklet documents. The margins are printer specific and can't be adjusted. Therefore it makes no sense to let the printer dictate the margins and thereby the scale of the printout.

I would prefer an option to print booklets at full scale (disregarding the printer margins). To address the issue of printer margins I leave an empty "safety margin" around the content instead.

Did you find a way around this? I am having the same issue... It seems to be mainly the top and bottom margins that are too large for me. Makes everything too small for people without perfect vision to read! I tried to make the print larger in my work doc before creating the pdf, but it doesn't help that much.
