Adobe Acrobat Reader 2020 - deactivating the navigation panel

What can I do to prevent the navigation panel from appearing when I open a PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader 2020?

We assume you are referring to Navigation Pane, which has been disabled in Acrobat Reader 2020.

Check this and see if you have it enabled or disabled in the settings

Reader>View>Show/Hide>Navigation Panes>Show "Navigation Pane"
