Adobe Acrobat Reader DC has stopped working

Shortly after I launch acrobat reader dc or open a pdf file with acrobat reader dc the program halts and I get a message saying:

"Adobe Acrobat Reader DC has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

The program never closes and I have to hit close program to exit.

I am running Windows 10 and until recently did not have this problem. I ran troubleshooting program compatibility, but that did not resolve issue.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling - did nothing - same problem.

I downloaded adobe acrobat reader dc cleaner tool and used it to clean both acrobat and reader.

Rebooted and downloaded program from adobe.

Same problem once installed.

I have also associated all pdf files with adobe acrobat reader dc for opening, etc.

Any suggestions or solutions?

Hi philiphas,

We released an update today that fixes a similar issue. This update will be automatically applied to all Acrobat and Reader users in the coming days. You may also update to the latest release by opening the application and going to Help > Check for Updates.

Could you please try it out and let us know if it addresses the above mentioned issue?

Thanks!

Hi,

My issue is with trying to print a file from DbMotion.  It's a web based health program, the users tries to print a document but adobe suddenly decides to throw an error that "Adobe readerDC has stopped working"  I have tried repairing the installation.  That did not work.  The machine just took the latest Adobe update this morning.

As a point of clarification, the so called fixes work for people who are using Acrobat DC reader and were not able to open the app at all or attachments failed.

THIS STILL HAS NOT FIXED, those who are using applications like SAP who use Acrobat Reader DC as their default viewer for quotes etc. who need to use the print or save option.

The only current workaround is to turn off Protected Mode which  is NOT a good solution

It would be nice to here from Adobe that they are aware this is an issue and what they are planning to do. Adding Hosts or paths to trusted sites does not seem to resolve the issue. The view of the PDF appears however any interaction to crashes Reader

We have the excatly same problem with the newest version of Adobe Reader DC. When we're deactivate the protected mode it is working.

But when the documents are opened it is incredibly slow and it takes significantly longer than normal. More than 20sec per document.

Therefore we have very big trouble with the Adobe Reader DC, because other software has, based on this Adobe Reader DC, also problems for example SAP...

@Adobe: When is a fix for this problem accessible? We need it urgently!

I am in New Zealand.

Have the same situation for 1-2 weeks now on Windows 10.

Also have uninstalled and reinstalled with no change in result.

Used to work very well and much better than former Acrobat Reader.

Went to Foxit - but this is tied up with Microsoft now and does work so well.

Driven to "save as" PDF's received, then open with Windows E.

Can get there to print but cumbersome and print controls not good.

Anyone gone to Microsoft about this?  Strikes me a spat is on between Adobe and Microsoft currently.

Windows never fixes the present problem situation.

Going to try Microsoft for a solution - that is if you ever get near to someone who knows what they are doing and does it!

Brian

Good news - went to apangasa on Page 2, 13 January 2017 and followed advice to "uncheck" compatibility for Window 7.

Reader now works and printing controls back to excellent system within Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Thanks to advice from Forum contributors.

I had same problem with Windows 7 for the last two days.

It may have something to do with the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader DC trying to spy (I have seen some posts on this).

A systems restore to 13th January made it work two days ago but when the update kicked in again, I was stuck again.

I need a PDF reader and so have installed Adobe Acrobat Reader XI which works on Windows 7 and hope that Adobe will sort out the problem so that I can go back to the DC reader.

Apparently Adobe has not yet fixed this problem. My Reader was working fine. Then I started getting the "Adobe has stopped working" message and it would shut down. I would restart and it would work fine again - for a while. Over time the "stopped working" occurred with more frequency. The troubleshooting and repair functions did not solve the problem so this morning I uninstalled and re-installed Reader. Now it doesn't work at all. Reader opens but if I try to open a file I get the "stopped working" message. The first posting for this problem was posted over a week ago. Why can't this be fixed? I cannot do any work until I get a functioning Reader.

Try opening the Adobe icon, go to properties, then the compatibility tab and uncheck the box for compatibility mode.  It should work. I am running on windows 10, and the compatibility mode was set for windows 7.

Carolm - thanks so much for that tip. I had not checked that. I am running W10 and it was set to run W7. With that change it appears to be working - as it opens and I have loaded a working file. Hurrah! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Merhabalar Arkadaşlar;

You would think by now that a company of your size with your resources would be able to resolve this issue by now. This is ludicrous.

Update 2015.023.20056, released on january 19th, 2017, resolved the issue (when clicking print icon/open printing menu, adobe crashed) below.

Thank you Adobe support devs!

Hiya,

I'm having a similar problem.

Using:

Adobe Reader DC 2015.020.20039

On Windows 10 fully updated

See screencap for error message after choosing print option (either through Ctrl+P, menu or icon)

Downloaded adobe cleaner tool, let it uninstall reader DC. Shut computer off. Reinstalled from fresh download from adobe website.

No joy.

Rightclicked programme properties, to verify if it was running in compatibility mode. No it wasn't. Ran it in compatibility mode. Reverted to normal.

No joy.

Checked the existence of the key in the registry. It's there.

No joy.

Changed the default printer to microsoft xps printer.

No joy.

Disabled enhanced security in settings.

No joy.

Current workaround:

Filling in details (as above) then saving, then using windows 10 built in pdf reader (Reader), to do print jobs.

Would like some help to get this issue fixed.

Or installation file of previous version of acrobat reader, so we can work and ignore this updated version that has this issue.

If needed, can provide dll libraries and/or other diagnostic documentation for your support-crew.

Hoping to hear from you soon,

Kind regards,

RSJ

Hi all,

For my case

Windows 10 (10.0.14393)
Reader DC (2015.023.20053)

Compatibility mode is not checked. Registry originally has tBuiltInPermList.

Issue when opening PDF file from Outlook 2016. If Reader DC is already open, don't seem to encounter no error.

Any sugguestion?

Thanks
