Question

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC will not allow me to save, export, or create PDF?

I had my university send me my transcript, which I downloaded through a link they emailed me. I need to upload my transcript to an online application. I downloaded the free trial of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. However, when my transcript is open in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, it does not allow me to save it in order to upload it to the application. The save button is grayed out, and when i hit "file--> save as" it says that it can only save a blank copy of the file. When I select "export PDF" or "create PDF" on the right side, it says that the file's security setting does not allow it. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, I know it is on my end because people use this method to upload transcripts all the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your transcript has security settings so that it cannot be altered, which make sense. As others have said, the Reader is free and there is no trial.

What you want to do with your transcript is to download it and move it to a folder on your computer that is appropriate. You will need to send the entire PDF as it is without changes to the application. What are the instructions on the application? Is there a place where it says to select an attachment?

Also, there is no free trial of Acrobat Reader because it is just, well, free. So, not a trial. Runs forever but doesn't create or edit PDFs.

The free Reader doesn't allow for exporting pdf's and such. For that you could either use the full paid-for version of Acrobat (which is probably what the people that are uploading transcripts are using) to fill and save forms plus export them or if you just need to export and a few other things, you could get a subscription to Export PDF which will tie into Reader (and activate those options).

Export PDF: Export PDF to Word or Excel online | Adobe Export PDF

Adobe Acrobat: Plans and pricing | Adobe Acrobat DC
