Adobe Reader Comment function: escape key issue

I have been using the Comment function in Acrobat Reader to proofread PDFs for a while now, and previously if I selected some text to replace, typed the new text, and hit Escape, the entire change would be recorded as a comment. Now, when I hit Escape, it records only the first letter of the replacement text, so I have to go back into the comment and edit it to get the rest of the text in. Alternatively, if I remember in time, I click the "Post" button at the bottom right of the little window that comes up when I start typing the replacement text, and the text is then recorded properly, but this involves an extra mouse click each time, which becomes onerous when one has to do that hundreds or thousands of times in a job.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro and I have checked that my Acrobat Reader is up to date (23 August 2022).

Is there any way to fix this annoying issue?
