Will Adobe Reader DC work on a MacBook Air M2, as i can't get it to work on iPad.

Should also work on an iPad, but you have to get the mobile version:

The application is clearly installed. The problem is opening that specific file.

It's probably an LCD form, a special kind of PDF file that can only be opened on a desktop version of the application, as the error message says. That is what you must do.
