Adobe Reader DC

I cannot install Adobe Reader DC on my PC. The installation stops and I get the message "newer version already installed", although there is no version of Adobe Reader DC installed. I have tried the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool, used Chrome, Edge and Internet Explorer, manually deleted folders relevant to Adobe, I used some kind of offline link for an installation file, I have run the installer in combatibility mode, I tried to run some kind of a patch for Adobe Reader DC, but nothing works! I saw on the internet some solutions involving the registry, but this seems kind of crazy!!! The solution cannot be so sophisticated! Can somebody help? I have a PC running Windows 10, Version 2004.
