Question

Adobe Reader DC always starts as if it is the first start

Freshly installed Windows 10 Professional on my computer including software for visually impaired people:

- Freedom Scientific's JAWS 17 (advanced screen reader)

- Freedom Scientific's MAGic 13.1 (enhanced screen magnification and adjustment software)

Afterwards I noticed I forgot to install Adobe Reader so went to the website, downloaded the latest version and installed it.

Now every time I try to open a PDF, Adobe Reader DC starts as if it's the first start. In my case that means that it comes up with the accessibility assistant (due to detecting the software above) as well as the "welcome to adobe reader" kind off pop-up with 5 slides of new things in Adobe Reader DC.

Also preferences that I set (like starting in one-page zoomed view) are not remembered and restored to default upon closing the program.
Starting the program as administrator (which I am anyway) does not change a thing.

Anyone got any idea what's wrong here?

Getting really fed up with the issue and spend a day trying to solve it already.

    Hi ericm79519656,

Sorry for the delay in response.

As per the issue description, when launching Reader, you are presented with pop-up window in Reader, as well as the preferences are not kept when Reader is launched, is that correct?

Could you let us know if the you are getting the pop-ups similar to one mentioned in the link below:

Reader DC -- "Pick your color theme" Pop-up occurs EVERY time program is launched.

If yes, try troubleshooting steps mentioned under "Correct Answer".

For preferences, if you have set Display settings in Reader by going into Edit>Preferences>Page Display, that setting will not retain if you are opening a pdf which has its Initial view set, it will overwrite Reader's layout and zoom setting.

Also, could you let us know if you are facing issue when trying to hide right-hand pane in Reader?

If that is the case, try checking box next to "Remember current state of Tools pane" under Edit>Preferences>Documents

Click OK then hide right-hand pane by clicking on the small triangle in the middle of the page, and relaunch Reader.

Let us know how it goes.
