Question

Adobe Reader DC crashing when highlighting scanned PDFs

Hello,

I have bought a new laptop (Dell XPS 13 9360) with Windows 10 64-bit, and installed Adobe Reader DC 32-bit (version 18.9.20044.251705).

For my job, I read a lot of PDFs, especially scanned PDFs with no OCR. What I like about Adobe Reader DC is that I can easily highlight scanned PDFs. Yet, such tool is not working properly: the app crashes every time I highlight scanned PDFs. I start highlighting, and after 5 minutes maximum the app stops working. It does not happen with normal (not scanned) PDFs - I tried several times.

I have read your Forum and tried to solve the issue by 1) uploading the driver of the video adapter; 2) checking for updates through the Help tool in the app; 3) running this cleaning tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs; 4) disabling Protected Mode; 5)  using the Repair Installation tool through the Help tool in the app.

None of these solutions worked out.

Could you please help me solve the issue?

Thank you. I wasn't 100% sure whether the problem was that the update didn't take, or the problem was still there in the latest update. Now we know, unfortunately, that it is still there in the latest update. Back to Adobe...

    Dear Akanchha,

Unfortunately the solutions you proposed did not work. I have both checked for updates and used the patches for Acrobat and Reader DC.

What do you recommend doing? This is causing me many problems.

    Thank you.

    Hi Cs,

Thanks for sharing the detailed information and the troubleshooting steps that you have followed on your own.

It seems that the version of Adobe Reader that you have installed is not latest, and by checking the update its not giving the option to install the latest patch (18.009.20050)

Acrobat and Reader DC update containing fix for this issue is now available. All existing installations of Acrobat and Reader will automatically be updated with this patch. And if it doesn't, then you may manually trigger this update by opening the application and visiting Help > Check for Updates.

Or install it through- Acrobat Help | Release notes | Acrobat DC and 2017, Acrobat Reader DC and 2017 | Update

Let us know if it still doesn't help you.

    Regards,

    Akanchha
