Adobe reader DC for MacOs 12.5.1 free version filling fields allowed but does not type

So I have a pdf document with fields of which before I could fill them in. This is the 2022.002.20191 version of adobe reader DC for MacOs 12.5.1. Now the field activates but when typing it does not print any characters nor does it delete them if backspaced.
