Hello,

I am having an issue apply Adobe Reader DC updates to hundreds of 64bit workstations (Win7 and Win10).

When trying to push the update from the our patch management application I see these two events in the client event log.

Product: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC -- Error 1328.Error applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PTD11C.tmp.  It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch.  For more information contact your patch vendor.  System Error: -1072807676

Product: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC - Update 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

(19.010.20099)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Windows Installer can create logs to help troubleshoot issues with installing software packages. Use the following link for instructions on turning on logging support: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=23127

When trying to manually update from adobe reader using the help menu and ‘check for updates’ within the app I get this:

Updates have been disabled by your system policy.

Error:100600

If I try and manually run the update I get this:

Error 1328. Error Applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PT5D53.tmp. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor.

I appreciate your assistance in advance.

Error 1328 has different solution - restart OS and try again, or uninstall existing product and start over.

Most likely reason for error 100600 is that you deployed Reader from patched AIP (Admin Install Point)

If that is the case, patch cannot be applied.

To confirm, please enable Updater verbose logging and provide AdobeARM.log file - send it to me directly (do not post content here)

Hi,

Are you saying if we deploy Adobe Acrobat Reader DC patched, meaning not the vendor provided source code from the Enterprise download site at the time (not patched/slipstreamed), we 'cannot' Update or Patch Adobe afterwards??

You cannot apply Patch to not base version. Patch carries binary differences between latest released file version and base file version. When you deploy patched AIP, there is no base version on the system.

You can research if you can create new AIP using base version, patch it with latest Patch and deploy it over installed version using appropriate command line (google for MSI command line switches).

This is all standard Microsoft Installer (MSI) technology.
