Under Tools, Protect is no longer an option.  Is there a way to turn this back on or is this function no longer available in Reader?

    Hello Ckc,

Adobe Reader DC is a freeware application and has limited access to tools. You will not be able to use the "Protect" tool in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. If you search it under tools, you will get the icon of Protect tool in Adobe Reader, however, the function of the tool is not available.

Reboot the machine once, and check. Repair Adobe Reader's installation files from help>repair installation and reboot the machine,

If you still experience any issue, you may remove Adobe Reader using Acrobat cleaner tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Reboot the machine and install Adobe Reader from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Let us know how it goes and share your observation.

    Thanks,

    Anand Sri.
