Adobe reader for mac doesn't open downloaded PDF's

Adobe reader for mac doesn't open downloaded PDF's. I have downloaded the latest version of Acrobat reader for use on my iMac using the latest mac OS 10.13.3. High Sierra.

Bizarrely some older downloaded pdf's can be opened, some can't. By older I mean from a few weeks to a few months and beyond.

There is something very wrong and very ugly about this software. It just doesn't work.

Why is it doing this and what is the solution.

Do any other Mac users know what is going on with this ?

Hi MugWump,

I'm on High Sierra 10.13.6 with Reader 18.11.20055.290043. I am not having the same issues.

In your testing, did you find out if other people can open the PDFs from the web that you can't?

And to confirm, first you download the PDF into your Downloads, then you open it? By double-clicking or with File > Open?

What is the error message? Can you post a screen shot?

Please give the exact number of the "latest" Adobe Acrobat Reader. Your "latest" High Sierra is 10.13.3, and mine is 10.13.6.

Can you give a weblink to a PDF that you can't open? I'd be happy to test it.

How exactly are you trying to open the pdf's that don't open and what happens?
