Adobe Reader freezing when opening large files

I created a PDF file containing 124478 pages (142MBytes). I can not browse more than a dozen pages before it freezes. I have checked the file structure using ghostscript, no errors nor warnings. Is there a number of pages limit? My machine has 16GBytes of memory, i7 processor and SSD.
