Adobe Reader/HP Plotter Issue

Good afternoon!

We have a weird issue with Adobe Reader not being able to print to any HP DesignJet Plotter. Foxit PDF Reader prints finer to the plotter with the exact same settings but Adobe Reader refuses to even send the document to the plotter.

I thought it would be an update that Adobe has put out.

Any advise would be welcome!

Let me know if you require any information!

Note:- The issues have been happening with Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines but never happens when Foxit is used.

++ Adding to what has already been shared on the thread, please ensure you are on the latest version of Acrobat Reader: 25.001.20756 Planned update, Oct 01, 2025. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

Ensure the printer is updated with the latest driver and firmware from the official website. You can also try the suggestions from this article: Troubleshoot PDF printing in Acrobat and Acrobat Reader.

Good afternoon!

I have the same problem with a HP Plotter, it's a Designjet 4000 dating 2006.

I can print from other software like Archicad, but not from Adobe. Could you solve the issue? Thanks in advance

I bought a new wide format at some point and have never had the problem come back. We even bought a used HP blueprint plotter/printer/scanner and haven't had the issue with the updated software.

All I can say is update Adobe to the latest version, update your print drivers, and maybe check under page setup for landscape vs portrait instead of using 'auto'. When things went bad, that was something that almost always worked to fix it. Good luck.

I had a similar issue printing to a Canon wide format and a canon image runner copier. The solution for the wide format when this happened was to check portrait or landscape instead of Auto. Sometimes just clicking page setup and then ok and print was enough to make it send.

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described you are unable to print to plotter via Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? Please try with a different PDF file and check. If the file is stored on a shared network/drive, please download it to your computer locally and then try to print and check.

What happens when you try to print the PDF? Do you get any error message? If yes, please share the screenshot of the same for a better understanding.

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version 21.07.20091 installed. Go to Help > Check for Updates and reboot the computer once.

Please check for any missing/pending update for the printer driver and firmware and try updating it. You may also try to remove the printer driver and firmware and then reinstalling them from the manufacturer website and see if that helps.
