Adobe reader Installation location on mac

Moved reader application into trash Then tried to install updated DC version and installation failed - following message -

Found a higher version Adobe Acrobat Reader in the installation location. Installation will terminate.

Ran Cleaner which could not find any files to clear. Online chat was unable to help. Any suggestions welcome
