Adobe reader is blocking printing

I had no problems printing PDFs on my Windows 10 desktop using Adobe Reader. I left the computer at a shop for a different issue and when i got it back every time I try to print a PDF file I get an Adobe error message.  “The document could not be printed.” " If you continue to have this issue reach out to Adobe support". This has worked well for several years. Has there been an Adobe and/or a MicroSoft update that makes this happen? Any quick solution?

Thanks

Ron

Meenakshi,

Thank you for the reply. I am using a personal desktop computer.

I had used Adobe Reader for a couple of decades without problems. Apparently Adobe sent out an update on August 30th, 2023. It says the software in the update was  Adobe Acrobat Reader MUI. I don't need the multi language thing and didn't ask for it. Since August 30th I (and others from what I read) have had a problem with printing PDF files. For example,

I just clicked on a PDF file that I used to print with no problem. Now I get an Adobe Reader error box that says "The document could not be printed, kindly use our help page to troubleshoot"

This was not a problem before the update.

Hi dresdenron,

Sorry about the delay in response.

If you do not wish to have the MUI version, you may remove the application and run the cleaner tool (https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html). Reboot the machine and install the Acrobat Reader from this page: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

Then try printing and check if you get the error message.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Here the same problem only with Quick Print, this seems to have occurred since the last update of Adobe Acrobat;

Adobe Acrobat (64-bit)

Did anyone find a fix for this? I got a popup about another Adobe update but after that installed I still have the problem. I had stopped at the tech desk at a local Staples store but they didn't know what I was talking about. The same day I was up the street from Staples at a meeting at the local city library and they mentioned the library had many printing problems same as I did after August 30th Adobe update.

Ask the shop what they did, and if they have a solution for this. Updating the printer driver may help. You can check, if it is the printer driver, by printing to a virtual printer, like the “Microsoft XPS” printer or “Microsoft to PDF” printer. Both are normally present on a Windows 10 system and are non-physical printers.

The problem is with "MicroSoft Print to PDF".  Shop isn't open Fridays or weekends so I will be contacting them today.

The shop was testing the hard drive with Western Diguital Tools for an unrelated question. I did notice that there is now a listing under Installed programs that said Adobe Acrobat Reader MUI was installed while the computer was in the shop. I don't know if that was automantic or not. I have always used Adobe Reader without problem until now. What does the MUI mean and do you think that is why pdf printing is not working since it showed up?
