Adobe Reader on Windows does not remember last view settings for some PDFs

Hi everybody,

I have a weird problem, for some PDFs (not all), the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader 64-bit on Windows does not remember the last view settings but always opens the first page, but for some PDFs it does remember.

Just as a note I am using Adobe Reader also on Mac and Android where it works consistently and all PDF's last view settings are being remembered correctly.

Is this some settings that is PDF dependend?

Correct answer Test Screen Name

The only thing I can think of is that this setting depends on a "unique ID" stored in a PDF. (It uses the unique ID rather than the file name to remember info, so it recognises if you download the same file many times). Some PDF files don't have a Unique ID. You can try changing the file and saving it (eg by adding a comment), then see if the problem is fixed for this file.

On the other hand, if you see that files are opening at random pages (not the start), it may be that multiple PDF files have the same UniqueID. This is harder to fix.

Indeed this did the trick, after adding a comment and saving the document it remembered my last open pages. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for letting us know, I think we've had this question before, but this is the first time I thought of this solution...

Hi @Miha Blazin

Thanks for sharing this issue with us.

Have you started experiencing this issue with the latest build of Acrobat Reader on Windows or have you had this issue with the earlier version?

As far as you have the following preferences enabled, Acrobat>Edit>Preferences>Documents> Remember last view settings when reopening the file>OK, it should remember the document's last view settings.

Unless the document properties have some security restrictions, can you share any one of those PDFs?

Meanwhile,

Just toggle this setting once. That means disable and re-enable it once. Then close and reopen the app.

Also,

Go to Acrobat> Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once (you must save all the work before restarting)

To download the patch manually, more information about this release is here: Release Notes | Adobe Acrobat, Reader

Thanks,

Akanchha
