Adobe Reader stays open after printing

Hello all.

I've searched for this issue in forums and found several questions, but still no useful answer, so I'll open this topic once more.

In Windows Explorer (or File Explorer), I select one PDF file, do right-click on it, and in context menu I choose Print.

The file is printed, but Adobe Reader opens and stays minimized, with File Lists > Recent shown in it.

The users don't want to open Adobe Reader, they just want to print the file, and don't want to manually close Adobe Reader afterwards.

Is it possible to have Adobe Reader closed automatically after printing the file?

The same behavior is encountered on all tested computers, in different versions of operating system (from Windows 7 to Windows 10), and with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (updated to the latest version on all machines).

thank you for the prompt reply.

We've tested the workaround you suggested on several machines, but it didn't yield the desired result.

In our further testing we've discovered that when Adobe Reader is open because of printing for the first time, it stays open with File Lists > Recent shown, but that doesn't disable user from printing the next document.

The good thing is that there will be no multiple instances of Adobe Reader open when printing multiple files sequentially - there will be only one instance of Adobe Reader open.

That is not the optimal behavior, but we can live with that.

    Hi Predrag.s,

    We are sorry to hear that experience. This seems to be a default behavior of the application.

    For the testing purpose we would like you to try a workaround and let us know if that helps a bit.

    Launch application and Click Edit>Preferences and remove the check from the Enable Protected Mode at Startup in the General Tab.

    *It is not recommended to keep the Protected Mode off during start up, would suggest you to turn it on after performing the test.
