Adobe Reader will not open

I keep getting a message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" when I try and open Adobe Reader or any PDF document.

I have removed the programme & re-installed it several times, but this hasn't resolved this issue.

However, it does work if I open Adobe as an administrator.

I'm using Windows 10

Is there a fix for this please?

Hello nigels8253378

Sorry for the delay in response to your query and apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Please check for any pending updates from Help>Check for updates. You may also try to repair the installation files from Help>Repair installation.

Please check for any pending updates of Windows from Control Panel>Windows updates.

If it does not bring any changes, then use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove the installed Reader, download the Cleaner tool from Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Restart the computer, and then try to install the Reader from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

I have also shared more troubleshooting steps via private message, please check your email inbox.

Hope this helps, and let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
