An error occurred while trying to create a mail document

I am trying to send a .pdf document from Adobe DC Reader to Outlook, but keep getting the message 'An error occurred while trying to create a mail document. Adobe Acrobat is unable to complete your request'. I am using Outlook 2016 as my default mail application. Is there any way to fix this?
