Question

Annotations not visible on Digitally signed documents

hello.

I have a few coworkers who are using digital sigantures on pdf files, one of my colleagues is signing the documents with an annotation (picture with a signature or something like this). When the pdf documents are saved and send to other departments, the annotation signature is visible only in preview mode (Outlook) or if the pdf file is opened in Chrome or Edge, not when it is open with Acrobat Reader DC. Also to keep the annotation signature visible on the documents, we need to use "microsoft print to pdf" option, which is making a flatten pdf file, but this is working only from Chrome or Edge.

Is there a solution to see that signature directly in Acrobat Reader DC?

Thank you.

I'm having the exact same issue at work.

Digital signatures are visible.

Our Director however sometimes uses an electronic signature (from his mobile device), and that is not visible when we open the document in Reader DC. In Outlook preview mode it is indeed visible, as well as in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox.

The signature pane in Reader indicates that there is indeed an 'annotation', but with an exclamation point. It however does not give an error message.

As these are documents that need to be signed and approved by an entire chain of people in our organisation (government), the fact that this electronic (not digital!) signature is not visible in Reader DC, although it is there, causes some problems.

I already tried to 'print to pdf', or extract the page with the signature to a separate pdf. This results in the signature being visible in Reader DC. The problem is that there are several signature on these documents, and this approach voids other (digital) signatures.

Is a fix, update or workaround available for this problem?

Please describe the exact steps you're taking to sign the file.
