Another AA does not allow connection with: smb://....

I see others have posted on this topic, but don't see a solution to get out of the loop I'm in.

  • I scanned 3 documents to the hard drive of my computer.
  • They are in the same folder and have files of the same length. Two of the 3 open fine. The 3rd generates the "Adobe Acrobat does not allow connection with: smb://" allowing me Help - to open a tab in my browser - or an endless loop of pressing "ok" that never resolves.
  • The only way to shut AA down is using task manager's end task. That includes when I open the program - no document.
  • I rebooted my PC and opened AA directly so I could try to change preferences. The same error appears after I open AA. It does not allow me to change any settings.
  • I'm using Windows 10, Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.418). Can't tell you the Adobe Acrobat version because I can't open it, but it is likely the latest version.

Thanks for any guidance - but this feels like a bug to me.

Here's what I tried and how I ultimately succeeded (hopefully).

  • First, I opened a document that worked. Then I shut the document but left Adobe Acrobat Reader Open. Then I selected Edit, Preferences - but the smb block window reappeared. 
  • I hit the "ok" button a ton of times and really fast - eventually it let me in. Go figure. I got this from other threads ( >100 times)
  • Followed directions to Trust Manager and Change Settings.
  • Sure enough, the smb drive was listed as "block". This is nothing I ever did, and as noted, the file I was accessing was scanned to the hard drive of the computer I'm using and it resides on its harddrive - not the computer in the smb message.
  • I deleted the smb block and changed to the setting that allows it to access all web sites.

 

Next I checked another computer on my local network. When I opened up Adobe Acrobat Reader (no document), and selected Edit, Preferences. A window popped up telling me "this document is trying to connect to computer1" (the same one of issue above) and allowing me to Allow/ Block/ Cancel. I'm not opening a document and I have no connections to the computer1 in the message.

 

Hopefully Adobe will address whatever is going on. I have my own workaround for now.
