Anyone having problems with the Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 update on Win7 X64?

I don't know about anyone else, but I sure am.  The symptom I'm getting is that the Acrobat Reader window will sporadically fail to open.  Looking at the process list with Sysinternals Process Explorer, I see that an Acrobat Reader task has been launched for every attempted open, but no windows show.  After clearing out all of the hung tasks, shutting down and re-launching the program trying to launch Acrobat Reader gives some relief for a while.  I have never seen Acrobat Reader display these symptoms before.  As a test, I de-installed Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 completely, and performed a complete fresh install of 11.0.8, which works flawlessly (and had been since it was installed).  I don't want to go back to 11.0.8 because of the security exposures, but I can't get any useful work done in 11.0.9 because I can't reliably open documents!!!  If anyone else knows of an official problem record for this, or is experiencing the same symptoms, or knows of any workarounds, I love to hear about it.

Thanks.

-Mike

The latest version is 11.0.09.  Adobe installed this update on my windows 8.1 computer yesterday.  Was working finbeore the update, but now cannot open any .pdf files, either on computer or from any source.  says reader is unresponsive.  Have tried everything in the adobe troubleshooting guide.

    - fix from within reader - non responsive.

    - close reader and fix from control panel - no go

    - uninstalled reader with intent to reinstall

    - now I cannot install 11.0.09 nor any older version.

    - checked IE settings per adobe troubleshooting guide- they are ok

So now I am without a reader and cannot afford to spend any more time trying to fix it - need to get work done.  This is a serious problem.  anyone got an alternative?

    Hi,

I am not able in reproducing this issue on my end.

Since, you're unable in re-installing Adobe Reader, you could try to run Cleaner tool before starting the fresh install of Adobe Reader 11.0.09. Cleaner Tool could be downloaded from here -  Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Could you please share the MSI log of Adobe Reader installation. To enable MSI logging please create the following registry key:

         [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer\]

         "Logging"="voicewarmupx"

Once the registry key is created, install Reader 11.0.09 from Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions . The log file [MSIxxxx.log] will be created at %temp% location on your machine. Kindly, share this file.

Also, could you please provide me the details of antivirus running on your machine at the time of Reader installation?

    The install was more difficult.

Today, while checking this install made yesterday, it appears that Adobe (See below) believes the most recent version is 11.0.06 yet 11.0.09 was supposedly installed.  The incorrect version plus the incredible number of updates of Flash and Reader the past two months does have me concerned.

SAYS: The latest 11.x update available is Adobe Reader and Acrobat version 11.0.06

I have done so, give me about 48 hours to beat it up some, and I should be able to tell whether it is working OK or not.  If you are capable of reading a dump from one of the hung processes, I think I can get that also...

    Thanks.

Not keen on reading memory dumps; let's first wait if the disabled Protected Mode takes care of the problem.
