Bugs with Acrobat Reader DC

Dear Adobe,

No response needed really - I just want to let you know that we are finding all kinds of stability issues with Reader DC now. I cannot pin down one particular thing because even the glitches are not that repeatable. Reader used to be rock solid stable, what on earth have you done to make it so buggy? Our document process for signing has not changed but now we have to run it with Task Manager to control what Adobe is opening in the background.

To be fair we are only using the free version so I do not expect Adobe to focus too much effort on these issues. However I humbly ask that you review the software stability at next version release. We run Ver 2021.001.20145 and the new 'features' make it super buggy if you want to automate the signing process. Or, please have an option where it runs just a basic core version.

To see good software ruined by someone's idea of nice features is just madening.

Regards

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear about your experience.

As we see that you are using quite an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader version 2021.001.20145, please update the application to the new version 21.05.20058 and reboot the computer once. Go to Help > Check for updates.

You may also download the patch manually using the link https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

Let us know if you experience any trouble and need more help

Regards

Amal,

Thanks for the reply. We don't think later versions will help, because we know our report process worked reliably with older versions (around 2019 as a guess), and our software has not changed. What we notice is Reader DC is doing a lot more besides actually handling the document. We see pop up messages, ghost copies of Adobe running in Manager, and usually the Fill&Sign freezes mid way through the process. We try to save, exit, and repeat if possible, using Manager to kill ghost copies. Signing with AATL certificates seems to be OK at the moment.

I only request that at next release you might consider an option to switch off all extraneous functions, to better enable automatic report generation.

Regards
